Break-up season

Sunday, April 17, 4:35 p.m.

Break-up season has arrived. Many lakes are without snow cover and the snow is gone from the bush. The grey areas of the ice in the photo are black ice.

With the ice thinning, traffic is down, but a few snowmachines are still on the move. An air-boat has begun making trips to the landing from the community on Bear Island.

Two areas on Lake Timiskaming are open (red arrows).

Without leaves it is easy to make out the forest types. The green forest is coniferous and the brown deciduous.
