Just received today a form letter from:

MNR
3301 trout Lake Rd.
North Bay, Ont. P1A 4Ll7

Dated February 27, 2008

The letter thanks me for my interest in the 2009 Temagami Crown Management Unit (CMU) and would like to know if I would like to give my input for the Forest Management Plan (FMP). It goes on to inform me that there are 2 tentatively scheduled information centers on the FMP process, April 15, 2008 in Temagami and April 17, 2008 in New Liskard. Both information centers will be held between 4pm & 8Pm. Formal notices will be issued about 30 days before the information centers.

The letter was signed by:
Robert Baker, R.P.F.
2009 Temagami FMP Author
North Bay District MNR
Phone: (705) 475-5549
Fax: (705) 475-5500
Email: Robert,baker@ontario.ca

Anyone else receives this letter. I did notice that they are not calling it a meeting but rather information centers. It sounds as if they will be giving us the information that they have already decided on.

Everyone who sent something in got that same letter. Information centres are part of the FMP process, not something they've made up to avoid public scrutiny, and present somewhat different information that what you would have commented on at the Long Term Management Direction stage.

In large part the whole FMP process is about getting us to comment on, "information that they have already decided on." Doesn't mean we shouldn't keep up the fight. Friends of Temagami
is following this very closely, and is actively involved with the MNR in special meetings. We'll be sure to post here and on our webpage when the next opportunity to comment arises.
