I was on Temagami last summer for the first time. Stayed entirely in Shining Bay and the Northeast Bay. Am coming up again this summer. Some of the maps show the northern regions of the Lake as "IR". I note that most of the conversation about Native rights talks about the islands in the northern half of the lake. I do not want to offend the rights of any native peoples. Are their special restrictions on fishing in those areas? |

I don't know where you see IR, but currently the only formal reserve land is Bear Island. You should not camp there without permission. |

Brian: I had to go looking to see where I found the "IR" designation. Look at http://www.geographynetwork.ca/website/obm/viewer. htm This is the Ontario Basic Mapping website. When I zoom in enough on Temagami I eventually get the IR to appear just a little northwest of Bear Island. I cannot find what the label means. |

I have seen these before in some of the strangest places. I sometimes think it means Indian reserve, but the locations make no sense. Anyway, Bear Island only is the only reserve that is anywhere near the "IR." |
