Go. It's really nice. The more people go and the more people make noise the better chance we have of protecting it. |

Preacher is right - it's slated to be clearcut. Interestingly, the local Anishnabai family who has lived in the area for generations had so much respect for this land, that they wouldn't even hunt or trap in the area surrounding Shish-Kong-Abikong, due to the fact that it is such a spiritually significant area. However, Rob Baker and the Ministry of Natural Resources ignored concerns raised over logging in the Spirit Forest and had no qualms about allocating the forest for logging. Interesting how the Ministry of Natural Resources "manages" the land today.

Above when Hillbilly says go to search, he means the search on the website pages. http://www.ottertooth.com/tem_index.htm The search here on the forum only searches the forum. |

The entire Temagami region is a spiritual landscape with some locations such as the Spirit Forest area, Cheeshkonibikong and the Grandparents Rocks on Obabika Lake serving as access points to the wisdom of the land. After years of living in the bush, we learn that a few specific rocks, cliffs, mountains or lakes are very special. Native people, who have the honour of living in the Temagami wilderness uninterruptedly for about 9,000 years, gathered that knowledge. We are fortunate that these elders kept such traditions alive. Now that we have learned this and made an attachment to the land, we need to protect it through the often tedious work of writing letters, reviewing government documents and keeping issues alive in the media. |
