Hi Brian,

I'm a newcomer to Ottertooth and enjoying it immensley...lots of interesting historical and current information and I'm finding the "Forum" to be an especially helpful tool re tripping. Was just reading the info on Ontario peaks and under "In-depth: Ishpatina" I noticed a very minor factual error. Explaining the origin of the word, the following statement is made...
"Author Basil Johnston, an Ojibway from the Wasauksing First Nation near Parry Sound..." Basil is actually from the Neyaashiinigmiing (Cape Croker)First Nation on the southern end of the Bruce Penninsula. I'm sure you can find him in the phone book under Wiarton to call and verify, if you like (you can tell him one of Barney Nadjiwon's grandsons snitched him out). Though he is a cousin (distant)of mine, I don't actually know him that well except through his many books. As far as I know, he is still alive and well and was still residing there last year when I was at Cape. He'd be about 80 yro now.

Anyhow, just thought you and/or the other authors of Ottertooth might want to know. You can reply here or directly to me at mamarasco@hotmail.com....but no need for either.

Best, Mark Marasco, North Bay, ON

Maramar, you are on your toes, and correct. He was born at Wasauksing First Nation and now a member of the Neyaashiinigmiing (Cape Croker) First Nation, as I understand. But as the consultation on Ishpatina took place so many years ago, I simply referred to his place as Wasauksing (Parry Island).

However, neither name is the point. He is a Georgian Bay Ojibway, and not a local dialect speaker, so I have changed the text to say that. Thanks for keeping me on my toes.
