The date is the same ,but the location has changed .
We are now back to the original location on Obabika and NOT on Wakimika.
If you know someone who was planning on attending ,could you please pass on this info as soon as possible ?

Thanks
Kim

Does this change have to do with MNR permit for landing on Wakimika or is it just a space/convenience change?
It's no big deal paddling up Wakimikaiver.

hi Mel
Its a combination of a number of issues.
My big concern is safety for the participants and that would be seriously jeopardized on Wakimika.
I was speaking to Alex last night .
He said that Wakimika is REALLY flowing this year and it is a tough paddle .

Yes, getting over the 2 to 4 beaver dams cane be tough and the paddle upstream at high water can also be tough for some. I would think space would not be a problem Mel. The beach is big and other sites on the lake.
I am not privy info about the MNR permit for landing on Wakimika but the 2 to 3 hour paddle up river for many newbies could be very tough. There would not be any communications with cell if anyone was hurt would also be a concern.

But then that means that the beach at the north end of Obabika is going to be non-existent due to high water level and then we must have the sweat lodge elsewhere.

Even paddling up it in the Spring in really high water is no big deal ... in the Fall it would be a piece of cake, even if the water was much higher than normal.

Holding the reunion on Wakimika was a logistical non-starter from day 1 ... so I suspect people have come to realize that belatedly.

As to safety, there are a few sat phones among the attendee group.

What a well known beach looked like on May2,2009
I doubt if it still looks that way today.

Hi all,

I was there in 2006, earthroots made excellent arrangements for ride and canoe that year.

Is there any news on ride sharing for this year? I drove there last time in a non-4wd and made it .. barely.

Is there any other forum online where this is being discussed? I'm looking for info on rideshare and canoe rental.

See you there on 18th.

Curious...

Will All Attendees Still Be using Motorized Means to Drive Beyond the Gate Restricting Motorized Travel?
