I am anxious to get to Temagami on the hard water this season, so I am offering an optimistic prediction of December 21. Any other wishful predictors out there?

It's already hard in Portage Bay. Not sure on the rest of the lake but one calm night is all it will take.. -15C and less for the next week.

The weather report looks like consistantly below freezing with some -15 to -20 nights so not long now.

You could keep an eye on this site. http://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/region_map. html
Satelite images that when there's no cloud cover you can actually watch the ice come in or go out depending on the season.

Has anyone travelled the northeast arm? I have heard there are snowmobile tracks leaving town but I am not sure how far they go.

I know for sure that there is 8" + of ice to my plowed parking spot at my dock.. across from the park... after that it's anyone's guess at this point. Sled tracks don't indicate safe ice.. I know a few in town that will go all the way to Diamond.. up the North arm on 2" of ice !

Thanks, irishfield for the response. I will wait awhile and check back next week. We really travel from the hub towards town. So when I heard the tracks were leaving town I wondered. I like to hear and travel on about at least 8" of ice.

..also only 0C and now snowing heavily so ice formation isn't going to be progressing for a bit.
