Hey Ed If you want a really early start on your annual spring trip the Sturgeon River is wide open. Still snow in the bush north of Yorston Lake south of there its all pretty well gone. |

Thanks Bush Pilot: The way it is shaping up this year, I would be thinking about getting out by say early to mid April. But I need to stick around home to help retreive 1 kid from London near the end of April. So the earliest I can leave is ~April 28th. Then I need to be back before the end of May to retreive another one from Toronto. Canoeing will be a bit compromised this Spring.
Oh well! |

They both take plenty of buses. This is about moving their chattels, to Guelph until they need moving again in the Fall to other places, not fully specified as of yet. Maybe you were able to have your kids live at home and so missed this phase of parenthood.
This is only the first time this has actually interfered with canoeing, so I should be thankful for small blessings. |

Its cooled off again so all the lakes look solid, even the south channel of the Lady Ev River is still ice covered where the current is slow. I was surprised at the amount of snow still in the bush north of Yorston, Diamond etc. always more snow there over the winter as the hills north of Lake Wanapitae create an orographic effect. |

Ed, Mine do live at home and take public transit to Toronto. I hope the ice will be gone by April 15th! |

Lake Nipissing is 50% ice free, Lake Wanapitae is 20% ice free, hopefully I'll be over L. Temagami tomorrow but safe to say it should only be a day or 2, big difference between yesterday and today, 20+ degrees and 15 knot winds will do that. BTW MNR are fighting forest fires today, amazing for April 3. |

I was in contact with the lodge on Kukagami today and the owner thinks the ice will be off Kukagami tonight, April 3rd. The earliest this has happened in her tenure there. Judging from the pics posted by canoedog, the other day, I would have to guess that we are going to have a hot dry Summer, with lot's of opportunity for fires. In May 2007, it was fairly dry in the Temagami and the yellow birds were out in early May, but early April must be a record. |

Warmest recorded winter in Canadian history with 22% less precipitation. The water in front of my camp is down 23". Canoedogs pictures indicate its going to be a long season of dragging or carrying boats up, down or around most of the creeks and rivers in all of the NE of the province. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/long- range-forecast-is-for-shorts-sandals-except-in-new foundland/article1521125/ |

Unfortunately, the sat images are clouded, but I can tell that Lake Wanapitei is mostly ice free. |

The Obabika Lake resident weather man informed me last night that Obabika will be ice free today. The water level is really down too. |

" lots of opportunity for fires " Very good point. Perhaps we can get the word out that campers should be extra careful. |

A boat was able to make it to Keewaydin, (island 1147) yesterday. Ice is still all around but they were able to make it through. |
