Most every Temagami trip I am honoured to see at least one of those. Last month I saw three moose and two bears. They are creatures to be respected but not feared. |

The only wild bear I've ever seen in 20+ years of tripping was in Temagami 3 years ago, the first week of May, after a horrible fall berry season. Bears? Rare. Odds are they're gone before you even have a chance to know they're there. I haven't seen moose in Temagami, but I've only been a few times. Contrary to popular belief, animal sightings of any kind are pretty rare anywhere. Squirrels & chipmunks, sure. Dawn & dusk are your best times. Places recently burned or logged are also good for wildlife sighting. |

I've been going to Temagami since 1983 (many trips) and have never seen a moose or a bear (saw bears at the town dump though), whereas, in Algonquin park I saw many dozens of moose and several bears (including cubs). |

We only occasionally see bears or moose from the lake, but portages can offer the occasional surprise.

See bears and moose occasionally. Ran into two bears at Kelly's farm two years ago in late July as they were feeding on berries. I don't know who was more startled. But they didn't hang around for my pose requests. |

In 7 trips over the last 15 years, have seen a small black bear bear heading away from us on Red Squirrel Road as we approached Sandy Inlet in September. Have seen numerous moose tracks on the bottom of the sandy beach on the north-east shore of Diamond as we headed to The Lady, again, in early September Guess that what keeps us coming back to find that illusive shadow in the woods in God's country of granite, skeeters, ice, black flies and loons. Nice pics Scott & Shutter_speed... this is what we all hope to encounter ~ but must sometimes dream about through others encounters... Thanks for sharing! |

"Unknown Lure?" A Northwoods Journey into tha unkind. Canoe voyage into world of water, woods & wildlife. Fresh uncharted "Canoe Country" to navigate thru. An adventure quest into tha deep, dark thick of it all. Lingeren round, waiten fer Forces of Nature to get out of sort & then wonder why on me? All those rods to portage-in, paddlen quiet water passages never seen before, in-doubt what wild river has in store fer U round next bend, tha "Silence of tha Black Night", a tooth clawed beastly that be all stirred-UP. Wher 1's destiny be uncertain/or unclear be bewilderen. "Tis what makes adventursum campaign what it is, exciten, captivaten, & to defy dare. Maken 1 ponder why tha hall I'm here any way? Just be a flight plight of mine any how. Entice with tha lure of tha "Great Unknown", to pull-UP yer boot straps & venture farther-in, makes 1 well seasoned. "Spirit of tha Wild" is out ther & alive. It is tha "Unknown", we need to seek-out. Don't no much, but,I no ther be an unknown outabout,, Heya camper 2009! |

"Voyage Endeavor" May be a bit shadowy & murky at times. Paddlen bout thru tha wilderness darkness before emergen into tha light may damper undertaken abit, unless 1 reaches canoe encampment along its banks, wher campfire ablaze, already in maken, pushen it's white clouds of smoke up into tha star studded, night sky. Fear of unknown 'tis a natural instinct. Fear of tha unfamiliar to unfold, 'tis unkind, uneven, as well as, unsettlen, to say tha least. Anxiety of seeken-out strange territory be foreboden, reason be-en, we're afraid of leaven what we recognize + what is understood/ or just standard procedure of herd yard-ups. Known facts R told what works, what be safe + what 'tis suppose to be. Tha unfamiliar strange/or hostile holds more opportunities, be fathomless. Be more wild-eyed latitude & longitude to distance. In tha dark, 1's senses wood be dampered knowen that maybe a Big Bruin outbout prowlen in tha shadows staren U down & not even no-it. Unmanageable lands to attempt to lean-to, adds-on more exploren adventure to encompass. More thins to unearth, more chance variables & more of that ther unrest to fulfill. Excitement of unseen always test dares U to make ready & clear, if, yer UP to tha challange at large. 1's imagination to no more bout it runs adrift, warnen signals be in place to take caution of tha wind wave dangers. Thru exploration UP into tha rugged Northlands, tha no-how of boundaries emerges. Tha more we glass from tha heights over tha vastness tha better we be equipped to choose a fight/or flight plan. To doubt tha obscure unknown, may hav sum misgivens/or be unsure? But if doubt still persits, exploit tha NE abit deeper & darker-in, Heya! |
