We had lunch at that place, and I'd recommend it. Food was good enough for on the road (nothing fancy, of course, but after a few days in the bush, who cares!) and the price was right. The place's got a real local flavor, we chatted with two folks that live nearby and picked up on a few things that were neat to know. The cook (owner?) is friendly and volunteered that she does paddle the river out front, and that the water is the lowest she's ever seen. So, if you come down from the road to Obabika, stop by and check it out: it's nice to have a meal together at the end of the trip, and I hope the restaurant's here to stay.... |

Not sure which one you are writing about? So I am curious..... The chip stand hasn't been open for 2 years now. It replaced another restaurant in a building beside it that had closed. The only other place to eat is in the small store that also sells booze and everything else including Park Permits. Or has the restaurant re-opened? I think there is a Restaurant in Field. It has the Sturgeon River out front, across the road. In River Valley the river is out back of everything. |

Maybe I am off, but I was sure we stopped in River Valley. http://mapper.acme.com/?ll=46.58693,-80.18301&z=16 &t=H The place is on the right side of the road as you drive out towards Sturgeon Falls. (Message edited by erhard on September 28, 2010) |

On the topic of restaurants, I have always had the classic bacon and eggs at The Bee in Temagami after my trips. This year, arriving at six p.m., I ordered a steak dinner. Big mistake. I was the only customer, a steak defrosted and raw in the middle, minute rice and soggy frozen veg. I should have known better, but I have such a desire to find the jewels in the rough. The Little Britt Inn on the other hand, was a joy after my Chiniguchi trip. Amazing how much you look forward to a meal that you don't need to cook yourself or build a fire. Anyone ever had the poutine in Elk Lake?? bon appetite!! |

The Busted Beaver is beside the chip trailer. Its a sit down restaurant. Seating for about 40? The people that own the General Store also own the chip trailer. They are a nice couple and the store is busy. Good fries in the chip trailer too! |

So the Restaurant in River Valley has re-opened then....It used to be a lively little place with all the locals going in for morning coffee. |

Yeah! I have been in there... but not recently. It was out of business for a while... maybe for 1 or more years and I had quit looking to see if it had re-opened. |

My wife and I stopped at the Busted Beaver for a coffee one early morning in July. Good coffee too BTW. And the chip stand sells great poutine fries. Your choice of cheddar or curds. My wife Kim had the poutine with curds and loved it. I had a fish and chip dinner and it was good too. Not that we were hungry. Just wanted to support the locals. OK, we were hungry. But it was good. |
