Great photos of the pack on Red Cedar Lake. I would love to see or maybe even better hear a pack howling. Of course it is hard to hear much over the B.S.ing and snoring of the crew I travel with. |

A few septembers ago, on one of those calm, foggy, cool mornings, we heard a pack howling just north of us from our place in Sharp Rock. It's an awesome sound, especially when it's so still. We've seen tracks on many occasions, but haven't seen the wolves. It was nice to see Ron Miller's great pictures-thanks! |

In the bottom shot, the wolf in the foreground appears to be looking at Ron Miller's plane. Probably wondering what kind of flying moose that is. |

There was a pack in around Dorothy Lake ~5 years ago. They had left lot's of scat all along the portage trails. My dog was with us and when we got to the end of the portage into Hortense, there was no dog.I was thinking the worst that the wolves may have got her as she was still young then and thought herself invincible like a daredevil, when she saw another animal like a bear or a wolf (just another big dog as far as she is concerned). We had a quick lunch and were getting organized to do a SAR for the dog, when she came running down the trail with her tongue hanging down about as far as I have ever seen it and with a very scared look. She was very happy to have found us. I have often wondered if she had run into a wolf in those several minutes that she was away from us. |

I observe wolf scat more than any other animal while on the portages of Temagami, my dog does as well. He pays great attention to it but does not 'leave his mark', like he knows it is a big bad wolf who would kick his head in if he ever came across one. Hey Doc, you know you love it! Perhaps the sounds of Temagami on DVD would fill the void, I'll record it next spring and get the guys to shut up for a moment or two lol |

Wow what a picture, i had to register to this site when i saw this, seeing as they are right around the corner from my house lol. I did go and search for this site but i was unable to find it, If Ron can indicate where exactly on the lake they were taken???? We have been seeing allot of wolves right from my house this year, over 15 now. Here is a special one, hes far out, over 500 yards, and i did get some video of him, Red Cedar Lake as well. great pics ron and brad. only time i heard wolves howling in temagami was on alexander lake on the makobe. it was a big pack and it happened every hour or two from dusk till late at night. next morning we saw a female moose with a single calf and would suppose she might have lost the other one(s) during the night. we also once saw tracks of a large pack on the sandspit at the top of smoothwater lake where there is a campsite; they had obviously used it to cross to the west side of the river. |
