Brian My Dad confirms the mystery boat is the Aletis, taken to Moosonee by the ONR near the end of the war. |

Bushpilot, let's bring that photo back. There are five boats, so which are which?

bush_pilot, I'm curious as to who your Dad is, and whether I might know him. I had only two experiences in flying in bush planes- one to assist some Temagami hunters in carrying out their moose to be picked up, the other in going to fight a forest fire. For some unknown reason, I remember that the fire was located in Armagh township- where that is I have no idea. I was on summer holidays from high school at the time, and my Dad, who worked for L&F (MNR) was in charge of the crew. It was hard work but I totally enjoyed the experience. My Dad was always quite inventive, and the first night there we bedded down in a partially collapsed old logging camp. My Dad took a roll of hose and he and I strung it around to big logs on the floor of the camp. He then set a big sleeping bag on top, and we put our sleeping bags on this makeshift bed. I would have slept excellent except for the 8 and a half billion mosquitoes that night. I worked my a... of the next couple of days and slept well too after dousing myself in OFF before bedding down. |

According to Jack Stevens starting at top left and going counter clockwise- Iona (white hull),Grey Owl, then probably Wakimika then Ojibway. He says the last three were all very similar. Brian, he also knew the Aletis right away before reading the caption. Purser, Dad says hello and he also knew all the people in the hockey photo, one you missed, I forgot to write it down. His Grandfathers business was just to the left of the photo The original Temagami Outfitting Co. |

Iona! I'd forgotten that one. Are we on a roll? This one was taken while they were building the parking garage that was on the north side of the road, Lakeshore(?). You can see it under construction in the uncropped image. This was probably taken in the late 1940s. There's the Aletis and the Vedette above it.

Oboy, oboy, oboy. Old boats. Now you're talking my language. Keep them coming, I'll keep coming back to look. |

Here's one, but can you also identify the location?

My guess would be the Iona pulling into Wabun. The hills in the background look like the east shore of the North Arm. |

You definitely got the boat. I believe the Iona's last year was 1945, but have no date on this photo. I think it was a steamer to the end when it was retired along with the Belle. As for the location, I am curious to hear what Dendrast has to say about it. |

Bush Pilot is correct, those are the hills of the north arm in the background. The photo is taken at Wabun. |

You guys are not giving Dendrast a chance! I was hoping he would embarrass himself (since that is his dock) and get it wrong. Anybody have a date? It is sometime between 1933 and 1945. Notice the dock is not the current L configuration. |
