Thanks for the response Brian. And thanks Ed for cleaning up my post.

Back to the question at hand......

Any other reports from the Temagami area on the ice conditions? Only 40 more days to go before my first trip of the season. I'm hoping I can paddle my canoe and not an ice breaker. Ice breakers require skid plates and haven't installed them yet.

hey Bushpilot, how much deforestation do you actually see in the Temagami area from your vantage point? is it large clear cut areas? or selective cutting?

i do appreciate that this may belong in another thread, but i think it's related to the provided pictures above, hmm maybe i'll repost...

Trendy

I think you will be out of luck. I landed on Onaping Lake north of Sudbury this weekend there was still 3 feet of ice! It has also been very cool, below freezing at night. I flew all weekend and the only open water was on the rivers, even Georgan Bay and parts of Lake Huron are frozen.

Went up to Net Lake last year on the second weekend of May and there was still a lot of ice on it. Can't see the ice being gone before then.

I'm hoping the majority of the ice will be gone by the weekend before May 24.

Breakup has begun as seen in the satellite photo I posted. It can be reached from the Temagami home page along with other ice shots:

Great photos Brian! It's starting to look good!

I've sanded and oiled the gunwhales on my canoe in anticipation. Even portaged it around the yard a few times too! Of course my neighbours now think I'm nuts. Oh well.

Any word on the ice out from others in the area?

That didn't work so well. Makobe and Banks on left, Florence on right above. If you look carefully you can still see snow in the bush, I was surprised how much near Maple Mtn. Solace is still frozen, every lake south of there is open or mostly open, just bays covered. Very cold today, flew through snow showers, high of +2 C tomorrow. Enough already!!!

Thanks for the info bush_pilot. I will be in the area on Apr 29. I don't suppose you noticed if Sugar Lake or McGiffin Lake were open?

Any suggestions for a smallish Lake Trout lake that would be ice-free? Anyone?
