Hi Kim, Sure, my 8-year-old daughter and I should both be able to attend. Do you have detailed driving instructions to Alex's place? |

How short were you thinking? You three options in order of distance. Park at Goulard Gate, use Wawiagama-Obabika portage (approx 500m)then paddle 18 km to ceremony site. Park at Mine Landing, Central Lake Temagami and paddle across Lake Temagami to Obabika Inlet and portage (approx 800 m) to Obabika and paddle up to ceremony site, 32 km paddle Park at Sandy inlet and paddle in via Diamond-Bob-Shish Kong-Obabika or Diamond- Wakimika - Obabika approx. 25-30 km depending on route.

Alex, Did you forget that due to the nature of this event (native ceremony etc.) that you are actually allowed to drive to Alex Mathias's place and paddle from there, which is only a short distance (but let's not have a lot of cars there). People could be shuttled from the gate to Alex's place by earthroots for example. |

That sounds about right mel. Since I will be there early Friday, I will volunteer my services and pick up to shuttle people and canoes. |

Is anyone looking to fly out on the 16th? Wanna carpool, er, planepool? Flight is booked, just looking to share costs with a fellow traveller or 2. This is a one way trip, you'd need to find your own way out, likely not a great difficulty. email temagami5207 at ontera dot net |

Just an update : Looks like about 60 -70 will attend this year? Free food will be served for the communal meal on the Saturday of the event (Sept 16). Vegetarian food will be available again this year.Veggie burgers and veggie chili on the menu this year. The carnivores can dine on moose stew ,partridge stew ,chili ,hamburgers and bannock. Numerous desserts will also be available for your munching pleasure. The sweat lodge is being reconstructed for the weekend and a guest speaker has been confirmed for the actual ceremonies on Saturday. Some notable government officials have accepted invitations this year and are expected to attend. Should be a good weekend! Anyone from Bear island coming this year? Sure would be nice to see you there!

Just wondering if anyone is paddling from the Central Access Point on Lake Temagami to the Changing of the Seasons location. If so, what days might you be travelling to and fro? cheers and have a great day. |

To North Bay about 5 hours To Sturgeon Falls about 1/2 hour To Obabika 3hours That would be mostly travelling at the speed limit on the highways and being slow and careful on the back roads. |

Anyone traveling from the GTA should figure on, drivng the speed limits as Ed says, can figure on 7.5 hours by 4X4 and 8 hours by car if you only stop to re-fuel. Please re-fuel in North Bay, Sturgeon Falls or River Valley. Do not try to drive in from one of these towns without having a full tank. Drive carefully and watch out fo rock that may damage the underside of your car. Bill |
