Temagami town was largely spared and did not lose power. There was power lost on Lake Temagami, and some cottages there were damaged, according to pilot reports. Driving up and down the highway, the damage is greater the further south you drive, with North Bay, Callander and Mattawa the hardest hit. |

We just got back from our annual 1 week stay at a cottage in the hub area of Lake Temagami. We could hear storms in the distance on Monday, and eventually got some rain, thunder and lightning, and our power flickered for a moment, but that was it. We couldn't believe our eyes when we drove through Mattawa today. According to the kind lady at the gas station, 4 houses and a brand new van were destroyed by falling trees, and she was out of power (and business) for 91 hours. |

You got lucky tsm...Axe Narrows/Broom Islands there are cottages split in half from old growth coming down on them. Looks like a giant walked thru there breaking trees and crushing stuff as he went. I almost lost my airplane..5 ropes on it and it got turned sideways on my lift. At one point the left wing was 4 feet higher than the right. Finlayson PPark lost at least 60 trees and amazing no campers were killed. I estimate the wind hit 80 to 90 mph when the trees went almost horizontal after the second wave of hail. We went without power from 3:25 Monday to 9:55 Wednesday night using ice blocks in the crisper trays and freezer to save our food. Save travels, Wayne (Message edited by irishfield on July 29, 2006) |

Wayne I didn't realize the lake got hit that hard! That's too bad about those cottages, and those beautiful trees in the park.Thank god no one was hurt! Rick Lockhart from the lodge told us he had 4 foot waves crashing onto his docks, but in our protected bay, we didn't have any wind at all. Hope your plane is OK! |

This was taken at Restoule PP last week. There were many many trees down but this one was particularily impressive. Man that sucks about the canoe. Was it insured?
