Does anyone know if high-speed wireless Internet access is available in Temagami yet? I hear there is a tower in Temagami North...what about the lake? |

I emailed my question to Ontera and they said there were no towers at all in Temagami. |

Ah. I live in Temagami town and have high speed, but it comes through the phone lines. Our wireless router picks it up from there. That's how I get wireless high speed. |

NeoNet says that they have a proposal pending to bring DSL into Temagami proper and to install a Wireless tower in Temagami North.
KNET is apparently working on bringing high speed to bear island but I haven't heard back from them yet. |

Hi all, I just got off line with my neice on Bear Island and she says YEAH!! no more smoke signals they have high speed now!!!!
UMMM...I live in Temagami North and I've had DSL for almost a year now.} |

I haven't been able to get through to anyone at KNet regarding the status of their project to bring high speed to bear island, however I gather from other sources that they're having trouble going that "last mile".
What exactly that means, I don't know...but I'm trying to find out and so far KNet hasn't responded to my emails.
I gather Temagami North has DSL, but not Temagami Town. My understanding after talking to NeoNet is that they have a proposal under review to bring DSL into the town. |

The last mile has traditionaly been the entrance cable (phone line) to the residence.
If they are going landline DSL there is a distance issue. (degredation of service )
Are they going submarine cable or wireless to B.I.? |

Yes broad band DSL internet is now available on Bear Island. Ontera have connected Bear Island with fiber optic cable and installed a DSLAM on the island.
There is very limited Bell and Telus Black Berry or PDA service available via cell site. Coverage is best in the north east arm. Hope this helps! |

Does anyone know where the cell tower is? I heard the closest one was in New Liskeard?
Rogers/Bell have this new "Unplugged Internet Service" that provides high-speed wireless Internet access using existing cellular towers. |

The closest tower in the south is down by Wilson Lake Rd. To the north it is at the S-Curve about 5-6K past James Lake. |
