If anyone has heard any recent news about finding the remains of John Guppy, could u drop me a note. That was certainly tragic news.

John was found a few days ago, Wednesday I think, on Rabbit Lake. No other details. We all miss him very much.

John Guppy was buried today at Whispering Pines cemetary by his family and friends. It was a great service with many in attendance at St. Elizabeths in town.
He truly loved the woods and would have wanted to have it end within such a setting.
I have lost along with many others a good and memorable friend from many years gone by.

here is a copy of the obituary for John Guppy, in the North Bay Nugget:

GUPPY, John Edway Allan - (1956 - 2007) - It is with great sorrow but also gratitude that the Guppy family announces that John's body was recovered on June 26th from Rabbit Lake near Temagami. He had not returned from a wilderness trek he took the first week of January. John was the beloved son of Margaret “Peggy” and the late John Henry Guppy of Temagami. He is predeceased by his sister Maureen and sadly missed by sisters Nancy and Sherry and his two brothers-in-law Ian May and Jason Zeppa. He was a wonderful uncle to Ryan, Jessica, Jasper, Dylan and Gabriel. Many of you will remember John as having an incredibly generous spirit, great sense of humour and a special knack of making people feel good about themselves. He was an avid bushman and promoter of eco-tourism in the Temagami wilderness. The family is very grateful to the local people of Temagami for their continuous search efforts and care and concern during the past many months. Funeral services will be Wednesday July 4th at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth's Roman Catholic Church in Temagami. Donations may be made in memory to “John Guppy White Bear Trails Memorial Fund” with the Temagami Community Foundation (PO Box 338, Temagami P0H 2H0, www.temagamifoundation.ca, 705-569- 3737). Arrangements entrusted to BUFFAM LEVEILLE FUNERAL HOME - Haileybury. Condolences, tributes and contributions may be left at www.buffamleveille.com.

Thanks for the post Ojig,

I can honestly say that I did not know John very well. I am however, having a very strong reaction to his passing and felt a need to share the following.

When I read about John's death a childhood memory came back to me.

I remembered a trip my mom and I took to Temagami from Bear Island. We were walking toward the grocery store and a really friendly man came up to us and started talking to us.

I asked my mom who that was and she said John Guppy. I always said hi to him after that. It's been 25 -30 years since and it's funny how one interaction from one person can stay with you. In the obituary it says that he a special knack of making people feel good about themselves. I believe it to be true because that one interaction I had with him and how good his friendliness made me feel has never left.

My Deepest Sympathy to his friends and family
