60 - 70 were at the celebrations this year.Hard to get an exact number since some were hiking or paddling at any given time.
Always great to meet new people concerned about the future of the Temagami region and renew old friendships.
The weather was absolutely perfect.
The celebrations get better every year.

I had a wounderful time at the Changing of the Season Ceremony. It was great to meet so many of the people that I have communicated with on the forum and others. Heavy and Ed did a great job getting things organized. Thanks to Heavy for the great meals and the signs getting there. I had been there before but most first timers made comments on the great signs. Thanks to Alex Mathias for hosting and Alex M. and Ed Mc. for all the hard work at the gathering site. Thanks to Henry Annishnabi for the ceremony and for the enlighting talks before and after and to Victor and others at Earthroots for all the work getting so many to people that came and learned about the Old Growth Forest. I will be attending other ceremonies in the future. I to will not be able to make it again this year, as alsool said but with the cold weather we had Sat. & Sun, 0'C on Sat. morning and -4'C on Sun. morning if will not be long before the snow flies. By my count during the ceremony I counted 59 around the circle and 6 showed later making a total of 65, I could have missed some though. I will be back canoeing the area next summer.
Bill

Hey, Bill. It was good finally meeting you.

Lot's of old friends there: Alex, Alscool, Ed, Kim, Amber, Daren, Carollee, Leo, Jay.

Thanks to Kim for the M&M Food donation, and a little carnivorous chefing on the side.

Thanks to Alex Mathias for holding the event, and Ed for the incredible work he did.

Our apologies to our four-legged friends, Dogscool and Pepper, who felt slighted at being excluded by the two-leggeds from the ceremonies.

Henry Anishnabie smudging, or cleansing the spirit, with sweetgrass and eagle feather. Don't know the woman's name.

I still have alscool's voice ringing in my head, shouting from inside the sweat lodge (sauna), "Water boy! Water boy! More water."

I have never attended the change of season ceremony but I plan on doing the Obabika loop with a friend next year and I plan on making the ceremony part of the trip. Provided the weather cooperates. Glad to hear that this years attendance was so good and that all went well. I look forward to meeting many of you next year. BK.
