Let the games begin.

Who has a prediction for ice ice on Temagami and/or Cassels/Rabbit this year?

When can we expect the satellite shots to start to be posted?

Yup, you can expect satellite shots when conditions change. As of the day before yesterday, everything looks like just another winter day: ice on the lakes and snow in the bush.

For those daring to predict, from solid ice to breakup has never been less than two weeks. Or is that giving too much away?

I'm going with May 12th, Mother's Day! This would be be a great gift in being able to start our spring search for Daniel.

There is no warm weather in the forecast for Temagami area until ~ April 18th when it might get up to ~ 12C. What comes after that might allow for a slightly earlier ice-out.
May 2-3 would be the earliest date possible using Brian's historical statement.
Then there is the state of the back roads to consider......

Now an expert has weighed in with a really bad date, dashing all hopes for an early start to get stuff done this spring.

If you are the hand of God, please move the clouds, so Ed can have a new image. He wants to go paddling and the bathtub won't fit his canoe.

Images are available here daily:

As Brian notes above, cloud cover has obstructed views for a few days now.

You can catch a glimpse of lakes east of the highway and a good chunk of the Northeast Arm, as well as a slightly obscured Anima Nipising in one of yesterday's shots:

Still looks pretty frozen...

There you go, Ed. Not a crisp shot and there are still clouds, but you can see progress. Still time for you to sharpen your axe and wax your canoe.

Planning to begin a 2 week spring hike on the OTHT from Thorne to Latchford on April 30th. First 30 km is a bush crash (no trail as yet). Need to drive to Ottertail Creek to drop supplies. If anyone knows the condition of the McConnell Lake and McLaren's Bay Roads I'd appreciate the info. The later spring this year may mean that any unplowed portions of these roads (and specifically the small track from McLaren's Bay to Ottertail Creek) might still be impassible.

My axe is always sharp, but I only wax my canoe when I need to haul it across an icy lake.
