Hi all, Well, this is the second year in a row my Misabi loop has failed, first due to an accident last year and now thin year my son getting an ear infection three days in. Anyway, I'm in Sturgeon Falls now looking at two options: 1. Use the Twinkle access and hang around Pinetorch-Chapin. 2. Use the Gervais access down the Sturgeon, exit at Parsons, and loop up through Stouffer and back upriver to Gervais. Two questions: 1. Is the upriver option viable? Is the current strong at this point? 2. Which option would you choose? Thanks all

The upstream route is viable, but there is a lot of water for this time of year, so it will be a lot of work. Should you choose this option, take the Backdoor Lake route north of Stouffer as it will put you on the river farther upstream. Couldn't choose an option without knowing how much time you have. |

Twinkle access to gain a loop through Pinetorch back to Linger is a good option. There are a few options : over to Yorston via Pine Lk, up and over Lewbert and back down Ames to Yorston. In 9 days you should be able to cross Solace and take the Sturgeon down to the Witches Crossover and back up Yorston Lake. |

if you choose to do gervais, etc. we did that exact route 2 years ago including the backdoor in about 8 days. don't do what we did and leave the backdoor till late in the day, as some of the portages aren't that easy to follow and it takes time. the campsite on mudding lake is quite nice but has no swimming spot. on the other hand dougherty lake (island campsite) is our favourite swimming spot in the chiniguchi area. |
