Hi folks - three years ago we made it to Maple Mountain but it required some bushwacking from Hobart Lake to Tupper Lake because of low water levels. How are things looking this year (I am assuming just as bad or worse based on water levels I am seeing south but keeping my fingers crossed). Maple Mountain is a touchstone for me on every trip I take to Temagami and i'd like to see it again this summmer. Coming up next week. Thanks! |

Follow-up question - waited too long to edit the original one. My second choice next week (if Maple Mountain was going to be a bushwack) was going to be Chiniquchi - parking at Jonas Landing and going up Maskinonge and doing the loop down into Donald and back to Maskinonge. Are permits required for this area? Thanks again! |

Anybody? Even if the answers are educated guesses? |

my educated guesses would be that in a normal august there is enough water to get through to tupper with maybe a little light tracking (done it twice in august with no problems), and that you probably don't need permits for that section of chiniguchi... |

You definitely don't need park permits for Chiniguchi. It is a rare year that the water is so low on Tupper to be of concern. This is not one. |
