Hi, I am looking for advice from experienced temagamie canoe trippers. I am planning a canoe trip through Temagami starting May 11. Our approximate route is going to be: Lake Temagami, Obabika, Diamond Lake, Lady Evelyn, Montreal River. It'll likely be 5 nights. Do you think this trip is manageable in early May? Will it be too soggy or cold? Too buggy? I have only tripped Temagami in July and September, this will be my first time tripping in May. Please feel free to post any input/experience you have that I might find useful. Thank you!!} |

This is the link to the historical dates for ice out on Lake Temagami : http://www.ottertooth.com/Temagami/Seasons/Spring/ breakup-histry.htm But... we are experiencing the coldest winter we have had for many years. So ice out may be a bit later this year. As usual, I am personally hoping for early May as much needs to be done out there, but I am not going to hold my breath while I wait. |

Oh! The bug question... You will not need to worry about bugs. You will not see any until about late May this year. Maybe by about May 25-26 there should be a few of them out and about. |

Thank you for your helpful response. It looks like booking a trip for early May is a bit risky...I wouldn't want to show up and have our route blocked with ice! We'll consider pushing back the start date. |
