Water levels this spring are near record thanks to the large snowfall and late breakup. Bogs that you could portage in summer are now hell. Rivers, like the Lady Evelyn, are dangerous in spots. The water is so high that branches that you may never have noticed in rapids are ready to sweep you out of your canoe. Some landings can't be safely approached. Some roads may have washouts. Paddle carefully. We should expect high water to continue at least into July. |

Of course, with high water come the blackfly and mosquito orgies, building bigger armies of hungry mosquitoes and blackflies. |

The high water was a welcome on Ottertail Creek in Temagami's far south east,canoe trip May 14 of this year, was full of great scenery !! |
