My husband and I have been enjoying our cape trips into the Temagami Backcountry for over 12 years. We started out on Red Squirrel Road and have worked our way north to our favourite Mowat Landing trips... doing Maple Mountain and other trips around there where we just go exploring.
We want to do something new but we aren't as young's as we were 12 years ago!
Reading maps and posts and doing a little research, I'm thinking we would like to start at Crystal Portage, into Matagamasi Lake, north into Chiniguchi River Park, Wolf Lake and hike to the top of Wolf Lake Ridge, then back down the North Arm and over to the pictographs north of Doon lake, back down to the portage and then home we go. We like to wake around 8, paddle about three hours tops and spend the rest of the day exploring and relaxing... gone are our days of go, go, go, portage and go some more!
Will we encounter many people... Aug 22 - Sept 2?
Paradise Lagoon... seems easy enough to find... looking forward to that
Hiking up Wolf Lake Ridge... is there a marked hiking trail
We always rent a canoe and need to park a car... any suggestions? Was thinking Lakeland Lodge, but can't find any canoe rental info.
All your help appreciated!

Sounds like a good trip for you. Yes, you will see people: boats and cottages on southern Matagamasi and other canoeists on the route. I think that is Labour Day weekend. If so, Wolf Lake could be crowded.
There is no marked trail up the ridge.
Try phoning Lakeland.

You can also park for a small fee at Sportsman's lodge - they rent canoes and will shuttle you to Crystal, it's about 20 minutes.

Thanks for the info. Have called The Sportsman Lodge, sounds very promising!
