Hi all. I'm new here, but not new to Temagami. We used to canoe trip here every summer, and have done several routes, but not in the past 15 years. We are planning a trip for this August and are bringing wives / children (no younger than 8), and are looking for a fairly tame route with large campsites. Small lakes and rivers would be best but not critical. We have four days / three nights. Was considering the Marten River, Red Cedar, Hangstone, Jumping Caribou route. Really would like a loop but not critical. Have read a bit about the Obabika River route, and also the Matabichwan River route. Will those work for us? Any other suggeestions? Much appreciated! Great site, by the way. Glad I found it. |

I should have added...we have also been looking at the Chiniguchi area. We have never canoed here before. Is it busy in mid summer? Would you recommend this area? Is ther a good outfitter for this area? Thanks again! |

On the Obabika River there is just the one campsite which is marked on the map. Very windy and close-in river, which is not necessarily for everyone. Chiniguchi would work for you, along with many other areas. This map shows the heaviest traffic areas: http://www.ottertooth.com/Temagami/Sites/chini2.ht m There is just one outfitter in Chiniguchi, and only a partial outfitter: Sportsman's Lodge. George Robbins is the proprietor. http://www.sportsmanslodge.net/
