I finally got this trip report written up from July 2014. It was a 3 day trip into Wolf Lake starting from the public launch on Matagamasi Lake. We had beautiful weather and the wind was really nice to us. http://www.loonislandoutdoors.com/TripReports/Wolf Lake/WolfLake.php

Thanks rwaywell for the good blog and the great pictures. I was thinking about a very similar trip but in a kayak. Would you recommend it? |

You are right about the impression of the Toenail Portage so I fixed that on the map. http://www.ottertooth.com/Temagami/Sites/chini6.ht m

Richtheo - Kayak wouldn't be too bad for the 'there and back' style trip that we did. There is only the one portage on the way from Matagamasi up to Wolf Lake. I think if you were trying to do a loop, then the portages would get to be a pain with the kayak. Brian - Thanks for the update on the map! |

I'd insist there's 2 portages from Matagamasi to Wolf. First of them is sometimes runnable, but not in average July or August water levels, and tracking it is no fun. |

I got the video for this trip uploaded today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kD5q4OttYO4 Eddy_turn - Both portages show on the map. We lined up and down the first one on our way in and out.
