The Gervais Road bridge over the Sturgeon is gone.
Just back from a trip that started and ended at the Gervais Landing. The bridge was not there when we started our trip on Aug 28th. Not surprisingly it was still not there when we returned 6 days later.
Not sure what this might mean for road maintenance, but for now the road was in pretty shape

It was taken out because the logging on the east side of the river was finished. It was always intended to be "temporary" -- a loose concept nonetheless. It will go back when they log again.

There will be other logging on the west side of the river so there will be more maintenance in various sections. Of course, there is no guarantees the road will stay useable up to the landing in future years.

Edit: meant to say
.... but for now the road was in pretty good shape

There are seems to be ATV/4WD 'driveways' to the river on both sides of the river suggesting that people frequently ford the river at that spot.
So i guess forestry people will still readily access forest on the other side of the river to plan future cutting.

There are about five or six authorized users of the road on the east side because they have legal cabins. Anybody else caught on the other side after fording the river by vehicle could be fined.

Of course, fording is only possible in low water and this is a great year for that.

and ANOTHER bridge is gone....
Just read on Ottertooth news that the bridge over NLER downstream of Chance Lake was removed in late August. We had the "pleasure" of passing under it this past July paddling to and from Florence L from Chance L.

That bridge has definitely been removed. You could clearly see the tracks from the heavy equipment in the sand. The area also had a heavy oil smell, they must have spilled some hydraulic fluid during the operation.
