Hi folks; I'm planning a trip mid-week in August with a couple of friends from Europe. They're looking for an authentic Ontario wilderness experience, so I figure a canoe trip in Temagami would be one that they'd not soon forget. Priorities are natural beauty and solitude. I'm thinking a nice balance between large and small lakes; wind swept pines and marshlands. I'm pretty experienced (not in Temagami) and we're all fit.

My idea is to explore the lakes of South Muskego via McLean lake or Anima Nipissing lake. Could anyone provide me with some advice in this regard, since I've exhausted all the info on the interwebs? Campsites, portages, particularly special lakes, fishing, access points etc...
Perhaps someone has a better suggestion for a 3-4 day trip in another part of Temagami. (I might even be able to convince them to fly into a lake.)

Thanks for your support!

Muskego will have solitude. And if it is going to be August, mid-week is a good time. But I hope they are not coming all the way from Europe for just 4 days of paddling.

If wet, there are some very sloppy portages in the western half. If you are doing Aston and Turner lakes then, given the time you have, it is a good choice as there are some nice campsites, particularly on the island on Turner.

Thanks for the feedback Brian. They're not just here for the paddlin'. We'll also be at a cottage on Lake Nipissing for a number of days as well as Ottawa. I'll probably send them to Algonquin for some time on their own and then down to Toronto.

depending on your trip 3 days is a race, we did the trip starting at squirrel for 8 nights, up through Ashton, Turner, Eagle, little Eagle back through Whitewater to Anna Nippinsing and back to Squirrel.. I would spend more time here than Algonquin as its much more secluded and no permits (except crown land fee), last time we went, we saw 1 other canoe omce we got on Ashton..... just my thoughts. eh?

Thanks camphieden, your trip sounds far better. I think we can stretch our trip to 4 night, 5 days. We'll probably make our way to Turner from Maclean, stay a couple of nights and head back the same way.
