I'm looking into a trip summer 2021 that will cover the Chiniguchi Sothern and Middle Tracks. And was hoping to pick the brains of the Temagami experts of this forum.

Specifically, I'm thinking the following route:
Kukagami --> Donald --> Macarthy Bay --> Laura Creek --> McConnell Bay --> Marjorie --> Rathwell --> Laundry --> Wolf --> Matagamasi --> Doon --> Kukagami

1. Is this a 5 or 6 day trip?
2. Does direction matter? I choose to go counterclockwise
3. Any specific sites / lakes that should be noted
4. Is a side trip to the Elephant worth the time/detour?
5. Any other comments on this route would be appreciated.

Thank you

You could easily make this either a 5- or 6-day trip in either direction. If you find it is too long, you can shorten the trip by skipping McConnell and portaging from Muck Lake to Marjorie.

Donald is a gorgeous lake. You will hear lots about the popular McConnell Bay beach campsite. However, it has ATV access and can get traffic on long weekends.

Of course, Wolf and Marjorie are gems. But Wolf can suffer the same fate as McConnell on weekends.

If you like those big lookouts, the Elephant is an easy climb.

I am curious why you are starting on Kukagami. Unless you are starting a Sportsman's Lodge there is not much public parking.

Thanks for the reply Brian.

We are planning on starting/ending on Kukagami as we will be renting canoes from Sportsman lodge and thought it would easier to park there and avoid any shuttles.

A few questions on sites:
1. Between Evelyn, Laura or Mcconnell bay where would you recommend camping?
2. Is the site on Majorie nice? I think we would decide between that or Northeast end of Wolf

For 5 days I was thinking:
Night 1: Donald
Night 2: Evelyn/Laura/Mcconnel Bay (leaning towards Laura
Night 3: Wolf
Night 4: Kukagami (northwest arm)

Nothing special about Laura. Evelyn will be secluded. But McConnell is still impressive.
Go for Wolf over Marjorie. I don't recall the Marjorie site.

Hi guys,

Heading out on this trip in a few weeks and was wondering if anyone has information regarding the scramble up the Elephant?

Is there a trailhead, where is the best place to start?

Is there a marked/obvious trail or is just a choose you own adventure to the top?

Thank you,
