Enviromnent Canada does have a transmitter in Temagami that broadcasts conditions and forecasts. The information cycles through in both English and French 24/7 (in the summer at least) and is clear in the northern part of the lake, but I'm not certain how far the signal carries past the immediate lake itself. If you have a marine band VHF radio, the forecasts are on WX channel 2 (not the regular channel 2 frequency). There is a list of Ontario frequencies and other technical information at http://www.msc.ec.gc.ca/msb/weatheradio/weather_in fo/on_e.cfm |

Thanks Dan. Can you receive that on a SW radio? |

You can likely receive the local Sudbury FM station for weather forecasts. Works best at night. |

Blitz_boy, I don't know enough about the technology/logistics to say whether you can receive the signal on a shortwave radio, but maybe you can glean the info you need from the website I mentioned or a similar site by doing a web search. The regular AM and FM stations in the area (North Bay, Sudbury, and Tri-Towns) do broadcast the weather, and they can be picked up virtually anywhere in the Temagami area -- but only at certain times, and most infrequently on the weekends and holidays. The Weatheradio broadcasts are readily available at any time and are usually much more detailed since they are prepared by meteorologists and not just read by an announcer on one of the commercial stations. |

CBC has a radio One frequency transmitting out of Elk Lake. I assume that this can be picked up in Temagami. |

I was able to receive VHF marine radio weather forecasts on the lake last summer. |
