We are planning a 4 day trip from Wanapitei Lake up into Silvester - Wolf - Dewdney and maybe into Chiniguchi Lake (time permitting). I've searched the forum and archive to determine if a permit is required. The resulting threads were not clear as to whether or not a permit is needed for this area. Our crew is coming from the US and I'm assuming some type of fee/permit is required for non-residents. My questions: 1. Is a permit is required? 2. Where can we purchase them along our inbound route? (via Hwy 11 to Hwy 17) 3. What is the expected costs? If anyone can provide or direct me to the appropriate information I've be very appreciative. BTW - this is a very good and informative site. One suggestion, I'd move the "forum" link higher up the menu for more visibility and traffic. Great job to everyone who runs, maintains, and contributes to this site. Thanks again. Carl |

Permits for non-canadian residents are required if they camp on Crown lands for more than 21 days.

Carls: I think you might be able to get a non-resident permit to camp on Crown Land from any one who sells fishing and hunting permits. There are several of these outlets on the way up to North Bay via highway #11 or probably also in Sturgeon Falls or Sudbury if you come that way. You could also email John.Salo@mnr.gov.on.ca and ask. John is the Park Superintendant for the several Temagami Area Provincial parks, which require permits for resident and non-resident visitors. I don't think John is in his office much these days so it might take about a week for him to respond. Regards, Ed. |

Btw, if you try to search 'temagami' at Parks Canada site it returns nothing! @ http://www.pc.gc.ca/index_e.asp Still , they want to charge fees - without even bothering to provide any info? |

Parks Canada operates national parks. There are none in Temagami or region. All are provincial parks. Hence Parks Canada does not charge fees in Temagami. Only Ontario Parks charges fees in parks in Temagami. Here's the first of a series on park fees in Temagami. http://www.ottertooth.com/Temagami/News/newsbriefs -028.htm#fe9 There is a lot of info on this subject and Crown land camping fees on Ottertooth. Use the link Ed listed above or use the search function on the home page or go to the Temagami home page at http://www.ottertooth.com/tem_index.htm
