Hi I am thinking of doing Route 19 late august and would would like other opinions the plan is Montreal River access to Smoothwater across to Sunnywater option 1 Wabun-Barr-Kaa to Lady Evelyn River option 2 suck it up and gample lake portage. (we have light fragile canoe) then down lady evelyn river - around past Florence and back up to Smoothwater. Questions: is south lady evely canoe-able in late August normally (whatever normal is) is Wabun-Barr-Kaa canoe-able in late August i have two weeks and love the winding rivers. Am i in for a long hike with a canoe on my head or is this a reasonalble plan. Moyra |

All are canoe-able in a normal late August. And you are in for plenty of walking. Are you planning to take the Lady Evelyn up to Apex Lake or go around through Solace Lake to get back to Smoothwater? If the former, that route is rarely done so no guarantees on condition of portages. The latter route is well used and not excessive portaging. Now you ask if this is reasonable? That's a question of personal tolerance. There is lots of portaging on any of your choices, but if you are doing light loads or one-tripping on the portages, or you don't mind the walks, then this may be fine for you. |

Thanks for the reply Brian. afther considering your comment i think we will take the path more trodden (solace) but if we end up doing south lady evelyn i will be sure to put the condition on the forum. moyra |
