This is our first time in Temagami, we are planning a 4 night trip starting on Tuesday. Can anyone give us some insight on this route (i.e. portages, campsites, etc) Thanks |

The information is all located on this website. Click on "Temagami " just under the ottertooth.com address in the header bar at the top of this page. |

Great, thanks for the info, we're really looking forward to something new. Are there any good campsites on this route that anybody would recommend? Thanks |

Does anyone know how the water levels are for these lakes? Will there be any surprises (ie. portages) along the way? |

eigthline: The water levels in Temagami area lakes are down somewhat this year but most are still canoeable. The trip you are proposing will have low water areas along the Eagle River/Creek and perhaps from Aston through to Lynx etc. You might want to scan through the forums here to see what comments have been posted by others who may have travelled this specific area, recently. I was speaking to someone the other day who told me that Obabika Lake was down by about 1m from it's regular level in previous years. The effect of this is to make for some pretty muddy portage put- in/takeouts. In the case of the Eagle river, which is normally possible to wade/walk your canoe through most years, may require portaging this year. |

ed: Thank you for the input; we'll definitely take the low water areas into consideration. I was reading through other forums and they were talking about black flies reappearing in September, is that the case? |

Just did this trip last week. You will have no issues with water levels. A few of the portages are long but in good shape. It seems someone has just brushed from Whitefish bay to Aston, and from Little Eagle to Whitewater. Thanks. There is no liftover out of Aston, and you can walk straight through. I guess a dam let go, so there is no pond to paddle across. The lakes are very nice and some big trees along the way. The portage (for me) that was the hardest was from Turner to Eagle. I'm 60 so maybe it was not my day, or was a bit dehydrated. If I did this again I would go R.S. to Aston, Aston to Turner, Turner to Eagle or L. Eagle, then out. If you have the Chrismar map, the port out of Eagle is in the wrong spot. Use Hap's. Good luck, It is a really nice trip. Bob |

rob_a: How many days did it take you to do this loop? We were looking at a 5 night/4 day trip. We've been to Algonquin two dozen (or more) times, Killarney a handful and The Spanish River last year (Awesome!) Is there any swifts or rapids along this route? Thanks |

You will have a comfortable trip with the time you have,There are no swifts or rapids. Hap's book lists a swift between A.N. and McLean, but not at this water level. Possibly if the water was higher. I would spend a couple of nights on Eagle and explore. Also the night I spent on Aston, the Loons, Owls (at least 3, do not know what kind), and wolves (for about 10 mins.) gave a very good account of themselves. Have a good trip. Bob |
