Hi all,

I am in the process of planning a canoe trip for the end of August and I would like to access the interior of Lady Evelyn - Smoothwater PP. I have read trip reports (ex. Ishpatina Ridge) that describe access to Lady Dufferin Lake via Beauty Lake Road off Hwy 560. I am wondering if it is possible to access Tretheway Lake or the North end of Makobe lake using the same series of logging roads? What is the condition of these roads and is public use of these roads permitted?

Any insight you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

You can use the Beauty Lake road to access, Smoothwater Lake via the Montreal River or take the road into the Lady Evelyn Smoothwater Provincial Park to Gamble Lake. There are no roads going into Threthewey or Makobe Lakes.

There is an old logging road that goes to the SW corner of Tretheway (actually, a small pond just SW of Tretheway). IIRC it's about a 1-2 km portage from Beauty Lake Road. It's very muddy at the end. ATVs use it to access a boat cache, and widen the swampy trail into a mud bog.

Should have checked. The trail I mention is showed on the map Ed linked to. Easy as pie.
