Would like to canoe in from Finlayson Point provincial park and catch trout for supper. We Never being in here, is the ice off? will we find places to pitch our tent on a 4 day round trip up and back the lake. We have a 2hp motor on a 16' prospector and experience with spring camping, just never this far north. Would appreciate any advice on planning this we live in Waterloo and would like to do this as we have time off that week. Is the lake ready for us? |

Lake currently has about 20 inches of ice on it and Lake Trout season in Zone 11 doesn't open until the 3rd Saturday in May... unless you can paddle/motor all the way to a stocked back lake for Brook Trout. Closest one would be about 20 miles from Finlayson.. being Brown's Lake. Finlayson also doesn't open until May 20th! |

Rereading your post.. doesn't sound like you want to camp at Finlayson, but along the lake. So launch at the town dock.. park over behind the train station and work your way up the lake. Lots of campsites along the shoreline. Still doesn't change when fishing opens. About the only thing open would be Whitefish. |
