Hi everyone, I'm trying to squeeze in a five-day trip, and I'm interested in whether people think the following is a realistic trip if the ice is out in two weeks: Put-In - Twinkle Day 1: Pinetorch Day 2: Lewbert Day 3: Florence Day 4: Talking Falls Day 5: Twinkle Lake (via Ames Creek) Thanks,

Squeeze is the case. It is all good except you need the whole day to make Pinetorch - day 1.

Thanks, alscool ... so it's probably safer to add in a sixth day?

the issue is what time you expect to arrive at Twinkle? There are a couple of other first night options, though not the room of Pinetorch. It could be busy also by my reconning. |

Leaving Twinkle at noon might be a problem. But you could camp along the way at the Moose camp, or a bit north of there, where Pinetorch Creek crosses the (portage)ATV trail or if you can make the next long and arduous portage into the next lake, you can camp at the north end, if it is not in flood, or go into the bush just a bit and camp there. Talking Falls to Twinkle in 1 day is also a bit of a push. That would be 9 ports including the one from Twinkle up hill to your vehicle. If you run out of time, you can camp on the portage from Seagram to Linger on the Linger side or beside the ATV trail that crosses the creek at the chute part way up the combined Ames/Pinetorch Creek. |

Doing this trip this week. Just wondering if anyone has tips, advice, and so on, especially between Twinkle and Pinetorch and between Solace and Talking Falls? |

Hi, If you're sticking with original plan:
quote:Put-In - Twinkle Day 1: Pinetorch Day 2: Lewbert Day 3: Florence Day 4: Talking Falls Day 5: Twinkle Lake (via Ames Creek)
Twinkle to Pinetorch: Couple of difficult ports. Particularly the first long one; hilly, wet and obscure in places. The port into Pinetorch is also a bit diffult as it crosses a ankle-twisting,half-burried boulder field on the PT end. Lewbert - the ports into and out of Lewbert are longish and have some very nasty hills! Florence - you have water this year so the muck-flats should not be problem. Still, beware of where you get out of the canoe... Florence to Talking Falls is a very long day. (Mind the big bog!) Twinkle Lake - if you came this far in that time line, you should have no trouble going from TF to Twinkle in a day. Have a good one! C

Thanks, Chris. Was planning to stretch it out to six days, but by the sounds of it a 7 day would be more enjoyable. |
