Hello! Still in the planning stages for a week long trip starting with a fly-in to Sucker Gut or Hobart lake working down through Diamond, Wakimika, Obabika, through the inlet to Temagami and back to the town. Is the wind mainly from the west in early September? Would it be at our backs for the long haul back to the town of Temagami? Just trying to figure out if it'll be a two day paddle from the Obabika inlet. Oh and any idea how rough the long portage is from Willow Island to Diamond?? |

The wind is mostly from the SW at that time of year. The best strategy is to break camp early in the morning ~ 8AM or earlier and get as much paddling distance in before the wind comes up... usually around 11AM, before it gets really strong. I haven't done that lengthy portage recently... maybe others here can advise you. |

Thanks Ed!! We were planning on starting pretty well right at dawn so as to avoid as much of the high winds as possible. Sounds like it'll be pushing us along a bit on the last leg of the trip; that's good!! |
