Hi all; in 2 weeks, we will fly in to the Sturgeon R at Scarecrow L and head downriver to Obabika R; and from there up river to Wawiagama, Obabika and Temagami Lakes and back to the town of Temagami. With the warm weather, I wonder about water levels on the rivers and creeks. Anyone with recent updates? Thx David |

You can see my report on Sturgeon in the previous thread - Matagamasi to Sturgeon. My understanding is that levels are unusually high for July. Have fun, Sergey |

As a postscript to our Aug 4 - 12 trip down the Sturgeon River.... ...it was a long walk at times!! The river was low, Stull Creek was misery, the existing rapids didn't satisfy and the portages hurt. That said, the setting suns, white pine and birch, bass-on-every-cast lake and family time were priceless. And my sons' lining and portaging skills increased significantly . If I had to do it again, I would NOT run that river in early to mid August. Perhaps July would be better.

The best time to run the Sturgeon is in early May.This isn't practical for most people with families and kids in school, so the next best time would be in late June or very early July. Stull Creek is not the best of runs. In the Spring it can be a bit dangerous in places and at other times have little water in it. |
