I've noticed some changes since my last trip along this route several years ago. There is now a very large green "cottage" complete with a dock, on the small lake west of WhitewaterL. It was a disappointing find. I used to consider this route to be somewhat "back country". Does anyone know when this "cottage" was built? |

That camp was there when I paddled through in 1999. Maybe they've made an addition? It has road access off of the Eagle Lake Road. I suspect it would be leased, not patent land. |

I met the owners of this camp last summer. They call it a "Hunt Camp", but it is really an actual cottage. It is an L.U.P. - not patent land, and has decent road access. When I met theses guys, they had driven in with a Suzuki SUV. I don't like coming across these camps when out on a canoe trip either, but unfortunately, L.U.P. camps are common throughout Temagami and the rest of Northern Ontario. |

I own the camp you are talking about. It has been our camp for 40 years plus.It is on leased land not a lup. I also enjoy canoeing in the back country. |

Interesting that you got a lease, not an LUP. How did MNR decide between giving you one or the other? |

It was a LUP years ago. MNR was offering the option to purhase or in some cases change to a crown lease. We had it surveyed and went with the crown lease. |

When I paddled through there around 2002 I don't recall that place being quite so large and brand new looking. Was it maybe hidden by more foliage and trees back then? I'm sure I would've at least remembered the dock! How did you find it in the first place? Are leases and LUP's advertised somewhere? |

The camp was hidden by more follage back then.It is the same size it has been for years just a few layers of new stain added. The dock was added around 2004-2005. My dad found this location years ago. I have seen LUP and leases advertized for sale in local papers a few times. |
