Was wondering if anyone could tell me how much hassle is involved to canoe upstream on the Temagami river from Red Cedar lake to Cross lake.

NO hassle at all, as long as you don't mind portaging the rapids. The majority of the river here is a series of long bays or lakes that narrows into rapids/gorges at several places. These will all require portaging, but other than that there shouldn't be any current. If I remember correctly there is about 5 portages.
