Hi everyone, It's that painful time of year again when I start planning for canoe trips while cursing the limited time my employment provides to do so. This year, I'm considering an Obabika-Sturgeon Loop for June 1. Does this look feasible? 1. Obibika (North end) 2. Hortense 3. Chapin 4. Lewbert 5. Florence 6. Florence 7. Florence River to Whitemud 8. Scarecrow 9. Twin Falls, Ghoul Lake 10. Kettle Falls, Sturgeon River 11. The Gorge, Sturgeon River 12. Upper Goose Falls 13. Obabika River to Obabika 14. Exit Obabika Thanks all, Paul

Or this alternative route that bypasses Florence and the Florence River to Whitemud. I've been to Florence, but also between Bluesucker and Solace. 1. Obibika (North end) 2. Hortense 3. Chapin 4. Beaver 5. Pine 6. Benner 7. Bill 8. Pilgrim 9. Twin Falls, Ghoul Lake 10. Kettle Falls, Sturgeon River 11. The Gorge, Sturgeon River 12. Upper Goose Falls 13. Obabika River to Obabika 14. Exit Obabika (Message edited by Yellowcanoe on February 10, 2012) |

You will always have to be concerned about the water level on the South Lady Evelyn River above Florence Lake. |

I think the only change I'll make to #1 is that instead of starting from Obibika, I'll start and end @ Montreal River/Smoothwater. |

Lots of smaller lakes and rivers so not much wind. June 1. Be prepared for the bugs. |

Think if I adjusted the route to something like this, the duration would still be reasonable? More time? 1. Smoothwater. 2. Scarecrow. 3. Twin Falls, Ghoul Lake 4. Kettle Falls, Sturgeon River 5. The Gorge, Sturgeon River 6. Upper Goose Falls 7. Obabika River 8. Nasmith to Lahay 9. Dorthy 10. Chapin 11. Lewbert 12. Florence 13. Florence River to Smoothwater 14. Out.

i don't see a campsite listed for lewbert on the ottertooth map. however there used to be (say 12 years ago) a campsite on ames creek where it widens out a little north of lewbert towards florence. timing looks good although i can't comment on the SLE part (or lewbert)... |
