Trasker - just an FYI, I have provided Kim with the number for Gord Bowen @ Long Point. I will also try to get into contact with a couple of the other cabin owners on Beauty Lake and let Kim know.
Just another FYI Red Squirrel Road is a logging road that does have the ability to go right to Beauty Lake.

rootbrian - been a long time.

Update: Our thanks go out to the OPP who have concluded an extensive search of all areas of interest, no signs or movement of Daniel. They are continuing with some interviews and will checkout any further information provided. At this time, Daniel remains missing and is recorded on the CPIC-Canadian Police Information Centre's system.

We appreciate everyone's help to date and would ask that you continue to spread the word if you are aware of people who may be in this area.

Ontario's Missing Adults have a case posted for Daniel - http://www.missingadults.ca/viewMAcase.php?case=ON -MM-2011-11-01399&Name=daniel&Gender=Either&DateOf DiscoveryStart=YYYY-MM-DD&DateOfDiscoveryEnd=YYYY- MM-DD&&StartAt=0&EndAt=10&CurCase=1

We are confronted with waiting for the good or the bad. Any information can continue to be shared on this forum or with the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Gracious thanks to each and every one of the Ottertooth Community for past and continued effors in helping to find our son Daniel. You are a unique group of very kind and supportive people.

Update: It has been 10 weeks and still no signs of Daniel. Monday was a full moon, but not shedding any light, the past month was by far the toughest for us.

Our Request: Please keep your eyes and ears open to any clues of Daniel, especially those who will be in Temagami's backcountry area including all snow mobilers, snowshoe trekers, winter hikers, trappers, cottagers, lodge and camp owners and visitors, ice fisherpersons, winter nature lovers, MNR officers and the few hardy ones who live there (Heffy, Alex, Fred, to name a few). "Every contact leaves a trace..." by Locard, good words to keep in mind, posted on Ontario's Missing Adults site.

The Waterloo Regional Police have posted Daniel's information: http://www.wrps.on.ca/missing-persons/daniel-dan-trask-28-years-waterloo

We had no idea there were so many missing adults, way more than we ever knew about, we were so unaware... There is even a Missing Adults Map http://www.missingadultsmap.com/ mind you Canada is "under construction", but what a great way to get the message out !

Once again, we are learning from this life changing experience. Our prayers go out to all those who are missing their loved ones, many missing for a much, much longer time than Daniel.

We remain hopeful someone will come in contact with Daniel and let us all know that he is OK.

Maureen - last week I drove by the old place and thought of you all fondly. I actually almost stopped in for a surprise visit. Then today I was saddened to see Danny’s name online linked to a Waterloo Police report. The message of his disappearance continues to spread and I hope that it will provide some news soon.

My thoughts are with you, Don, Adam and all of the family.

Sending you love and light.

Any chance Daniel may be recreating Hap Wilson's winter experience as described in his book "The Cabin"? I believe Hap crafted a small cabin on a lake between Diamond and Small, he called Wapaho, historically known as kaw.bwash-iwong. "Atop one hundred foot cliff on east side"

Fiona: Thanks for your thoughts, love and light - he's out there somewhere !

paulie: It's a definite possibility, Daniel read/has a number of Hap's books. Hap has assisted our search and yes, that was one of the possible areas, but no sign of anyone.

It's important for those enjoying the Temagami backcountry this winter to keep all eyes and ears open, someone has to see or hear something of Daniel.

Hi, I caught wind of this thread whilst researching a trip I'm doing Feb 13th-27th. I will be heading into Obabika via Red Squirrel, then heading south to Grey Owl. I will be in the area for two weeks doing excursions from a couple of base camps. If you have any areas that you think could be checked by ski/snowshoe let me know, I'd be happy to help.

Otherwise I'll keep a keen eye and ear open for any human traffic.

Here is a wild thought: although Daniel's car was found near Red Squirrel Road, is it worth considering that he might not even be in the Temagami region? Not sure how that would come about. Just throwing this out there, and hoping for the best.

Update: Tomorrow Daniel will be missing for 12 weeks (3 months), see the News Brief on Ottertooth, Brian did a wonderful job, thanks for all your help and support!
http://www.ottertooth.com/Temagami/newsbriefs.htm

Thanks also to the Sudbury SAR team who did their flyover training in Temagami on Jan. 15th: "We do monthly training sessions in the air. Last Sunday we had four private aircraft and a dozen pairs of eyes searching an area 20 x 20 nautical miles. This "box" extended from Ferguson Bay west to Florence Lake, and lower end of Obabika Lake northward to Willow Island/Sucker Gut area.

We checked some of the "obvious" spots like Lakeland outpost on Chris Willis, Hap's cabin on LE River, all around Maple Mtn., all through the Obabika OG area and Shishkong Lake area, etc.
Just because we did not see any evidence of Dan does not mean he is not active down there somewhere in heavy bush. All this says is that there were no immediately obvious signs of him.

Key point I wish to get across is that over a dozen people were looking for him and thinking of his family last weekend. Cheers, Roel"

FOR ANYONE GOING UP TO TEMAGAMI to enjoy the winter beauty:
Please continue to spread the word about our search for Daniel.
The more eyes and ears, the better, he's out there somewhere !

ni_kee_way: Even with no sightings, we still believe he is up there, somewhere. We belive he had the blue and white Columbia jacket and lime green snow pants with him, how can anyone miss that combo?

No places specifically to check, just keep an eye out(he had snow shoes sz 9), we believe he is somewhere with spiritual significance, based on his experience in the fall at Changing of the Seasons and prior interest in the native beliefs and way of life.

jackpine2: Wild thoughs are good, any idea is good ! We have considered the possibility that he isn't even there. Police have checked bus, train, etc. earlier on and have posted on their Canada wide police system, he could have just started walking. But, no spottings anywhere else either. We'd like to think Daniel is with someone, safe, but again we just don't know.

We continue to hope that Daniel is safe, healthy and happy, and that we find him soon.

Update: It's 13 weeks now, and still noone has seen or heard from Daniel. We are still keepin' the faith and hope for his safety.

Remember, if you are out and about in Temagami, or know someone who is going there, please spread the word to keep all eyes and ears open.

I came across this from another person who is missing a loved one; we remain thankful each day for all of you who are helping to find Daniel.

Update: Week 14, was a full moon this week, how quickly the cycles go by, still no word or signs of Daniel, appreciate all the people who continue to spread the word to look out for him.

This reminds us of Daniel, A Gentle Way:
Just remain in the center watching and then forget that you are there.

Update: Week 15, silence, no word, no signs. We are heading up to Temagami tomorrow for the weekend to get a sense of what Daniel may be seeking, thank those who are helping in the search, and have some time to enjoy our first "Shiverfest" too.

Update: Week 16, still no word. It was nice to be in Temagami, meet and thank some wonderful people who have helped in our search for Daniel. It was an emotional time for both of us, still no answers. If anyone knows anything, please share, it's the not knowing that pains us the most. With hope, faith and the support of all those around us, we will get through this. We continue to pray for Daniel's wellbeing, whereever he may be.

Update: Week 17, still no word or signs of Daniel.

Wondering if ni_ki_way came across anything on his recent trip.

Just want to ask again for folks to keep their eyes and ears open when in the area, greatly appreciated.

Update: Week 18, over 4 months now, still silence, and way less activity on this forum. Although we are unable to actively search, we hash over the last few days with Daniel in Nov., trying to make sense of it all.

Now we ask for your help again. Daniel had taken some pictures during his trip at COTS. When his car was searched, the undeveloped disposable camera was found and we had this developed to possibly provide a clue. Does anyone recognize the symbol or the possible location of this rock? Other photos were taken in the Obabika/Diamond/Wakimika Lake areas. Daniel was all about symbols, so it may be one of his own, with his own meaning, but I open it up to this forum for your assistance.

Hello Trasker,

It would appear that the symbol is indeed one of Daniel's own as, if you look low and to the right of it, you can see the the initials "DT" inscribed. Not sure what he may have been trying to communicate with this image, however...sorry! Along with so many others here on this forum, both my wife and I continue to hope and pray along with you for a favourable outcome. Blessings! M & P

Hello again Trasker,

On another reading of your post, I see I may have misread you. You are probably aware that Daniel made this (ie. saw his initials) but were just asking if it was an already existing symbol or his own creation.

My wife and I have done some digging as the symbol did look quite familiar to us. We both have a substantial background in the humanities, esp the areas of religion and philosophy. The key in the picture is the shape of the rock on which he has drawn it...a pyramid. What Daniel may have drawn here is known as the "Eye of Providence" or sometimes called the "All-Seeing Eye" (of God). This symbol of a pyramid containing an eye dates back almost to anitquity with known associations to Freemasonry, early Christianity and the ancient Egyptian "Eye of Horus." It was thought the three-sided pyramid represented the trinity to Christian users of the symbol. Also note the three dots Daniel has placed next to his initials...but you may know the meaning of those. This is about as much as we know about it. Again, you may already be aware of all this...just throwing it out there, not knowing how/if it can help in any way. M & P

Looking at this photo, it almost looks like there's another drawing underneath the eye, slightly to the left. I tried zooming in on this picture, and there is definately something there (it's hidden by the shadows a bit)...does that look like just scribbling or could that be something?

M&P: Thanks for your response. We did recognize the 3 dots with his initials, this is what he was using on his recent sketches. I have seen the eye before, but couldn't remember where or the meaning behind it. The rock, in the shape of a pyramid, how did we miss that?

In anycase, we are certain there is a message here, we just need to understand it. In checking further, The Eye of Providence has been connected to the Free Masonry, which Daniel was interested in. The Masonic Eye is described as the Eye of God, the symbol of His Divine watchfulness and His ever present care of the universe. The Eye of Horus is described as an ancient Egyptian symbol of protection, royal power and good health; with the exception of royal power, we could see Daniel relating to this.

mic_mp: It does appear there is something else there, I can't zoom in either, but will take the negative in and see if they can blow it up, tks for your help.

I've zoomed in on that photo, and the drawing below somewhat resembles an eagle, but it is very difficult to see perfectly, even when zoomed in to 400 & 800%...hopefully the negatives will help bring it more into focus

Perhaps it is meant to resemble a Thunderbird.

Update: Week 19, still no word, but getting warmer weather and we are hoping the ice melts soon. The photo negative was not real successful in showing more detail. However, to us it does look somewhat like a birdman, or thunderbird. Only Daniel will have the true answer to the meaning of this. Perhaps we will come upon it in our spring search. We've been told a number of rock creations consistent with Daniel's style were found during previous searches, but not this one specifically.

The 2nd Music 4 The Missing event was held this past Sat. and a great success. Also, Linda Little Smith was honoured as our "Local Hero" this week for her efforts in raising awareness of our missing loved ones. Maybe by the next event, to be held in June, Daniel will be found. Our wish for Daniel is the same as before - that he is safe, healthy and happy.

My wife took a photo of a triangular shaped rock on Obabika in the summer of 2010. Not sure if Daniel was in the area then or before. There is an inscription that is partially discernible. I am away from home now but can forward or post early next week.

Thanks so much GB, I knew someone would know where this unique shaped rock is, "...The photo was taken on Obabika on the west shore SW of Ranger Point near an established campsite. There is older rock graffiti at this site. I hope this can be of some use."

This is one of the areas where Daniel was, he likely added his part to it in the fall; he could potentially be there now! So, anyone around there, please look for signs of Daniel, part of the puzzle solved. This will definitely be an area to check out in the spring search. At least now we have something to follow.
