next year, i'm planning to paddle from Newfoundland across the straits to labrador and then up the coast of labrador for awhile ... maybe two weeks or so. am i likely to encounter polar bears on this part of the Labrador coast? i'm not inclined to meet these up close and personal.

As far as I know Polar Bears are not found that far south. Maybe in northern Labrador. You may encounter Black Bears.

No to polar bears but yes to black bears. North of Hamilton Inlet you may get polar bears. North of Nain even more likely.

I have canoed the shoreline both south and north of Blanc Sablanc.

More dangerous to my mind would be the crossing from Newfoundland to Labrador in a canoe or kayak. It's quite a crossing. There may be strong tidal currents in places but I'm not an expert. Or were you going to take the ferry across (that is what we did).
