Just to let you know that Paddleshack Oakville location (and Vaughan) is out of business.
The guy ran with the boats and is in hiding from the police. He was even taking orders and giving gift certificates up to the day before he bolted (he was deep in debt and had lines pulled from his franchise location)
I talked to Paddleshack Muskoka and they are very upset about this (no wonder, it affects their name).
People who ordered items like canoes, are out of luck for now. The police fraud squad are on the case and we'll see what happens.

On a personal level, I ordered an Alchemist Legend prospector 16'-7" and it seems I may have to pick it up at the manufacturer and pay again (if it was even ordered and the guy didn't just take the deposit).
A sad situation all around to hit our small community in such a way.

Paddleshack Muskoka is and will be doing business as usual and the guys there are doing whatever they can to see if the orders can by fulfilled somehow (apparently six people have had orders from the Oakville location).

Do you know if this affects the Paddleshack in Ottawa?

I own an Alchemist Legend prospector and I absolutely love the boat. Paddleshack was one of the only vendors of these boats and I hope they aren't going to decommission them because of this.

Any other updates you can give are much appreciated!

No,
Other Paddleshack stores are in business and will stay so.
The canoes are being made as always by H2O in Tavistock, so there is no worry.
I have got my Legend and was up at COTS with it on the 17-20 of Sep.

Beautiful boat Mel. Mine does not have the wood trim, I quite like the look of it.

Have you noticed that Alchemist is not making new boats this year? There is a new line of boats from H2O composites that bears many of the little add-ons that made Alchemist boats so great (like the carrying handles). I have a sneaking suspicion that has something to do with it since H2O makes their boats too.

Hmmmm,
Why would the not make them? If you ordered one I'm sure H2O would make it.

Nice canoe, mel.

I'm not sure what you mean my not making any new boats. As in new designs, or no production runs of existing designs?

Always happy with the folks at Paddleshack Muskoka.

They might still be making them on a custom-order basis, but I'm fairly sure that large-scale production of Alchemist boats is suspended for the year.

I have had nothing but good experiences with the folks at PaddleShack Muskoka or the one here in Ottawa. I'm interested to see how this story turns out.

I bet they either have enough inventory for the year or don't have the capital to do a full production run. They just re-built the Muskoka store this year, bigger building smaller lot.
