NEW OPP FACILITY OPENS IN TEMAGAMI McGuinty Government Improving Community Safety Residents of Temagami will be better served with the opening of a new Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment. The new 4,500-square-foot building will allow the OPP to more effectively serve the community’s needs by consolidating the entire detachment, including the marine unit, previously spread over three buildings. The new facility offers ample space to accommodate OPP officers, civilians and volunteer members who serve the community, and features upgraded telephone and information technology systems and other modern supports to meet changing technology and policing requirements. QUOTES “The McGuinty government is supporting Ontario’s front-line police officers with the tools and resources to keep our communities safe. This new facility is an excellent example of that support,” said Community Safety and Correctional Services Minister Rick Bartolucci. “This new consolidated facility will not only provide an up to date work place for our police service, it will also be a tremendous asset to the community” said, Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP David Ramsay. "The OPP assigned its first officer to Temagami in 1926. This modern detachment will enable the OPP to carry on its proud tradition of policing in the region with improved efficiency," said OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino. QUICK FACTS The McGuinty government is investing $50 million to replace or upgrade facilities for front-line police officers to reflect Ontario’s changing demographics, increased standards and new technological requirements.
