It be tha middle of February & Black Bears R
still in a deep winter sleep. New born Cubs continue to grow under Momma Sow protective care.
Sum Cubs born blue-eyed babes. Come 1st summers breeze, Cubs eyes transform/or alter to its normal darker shade.
Watchman outdoors, while on lake waters/or in thick of tha bush, keep a good look-out & call-out to rest fer "Bear Aware Alert", Heya! |

Tha Black Bear 'tis a typical NE woodland animal
Who prefers forested woods with much under-growth.
Wanderen about much of ther lives in search fer
more plentyful sourse of food + meet-up with likely mates.
Black Bear Country same as "Our Brothers Home Range Area", which meets His needs of pristine lake waters, food of plenty, unfractured cover, much given space & safe sound denn-up sites.
April snowmelt erges Bears out of ther dens.
With food be-en scarce rogue males get-goen & roam.
May showers on-set to sprout grasses greenen-up
& ever expanden aspen leaves be on Bears
bill of fare.
'Tis Black Bear be "Our Elder Brother"
on account of He, like tha Chippewas & Mohawks,
wer her 1st.
Tha Black Bear is steadfast, generous & wise.
As fer this reason, He watches over tha council
of all woodland animals.
On that grounds, Our Brother-In-Arms is linked to tha real "True North".

I once read about a well worn ' bear trail ' used for hundreds of year by some bears in Alaska. A deep rut in the rock over which the trail passed was made over the years much like those made by wagons wheels on the Oregon trail.

Stand yer ground! Show no fear!
Bear may bluff charge & stop short of touchen U.
If possible, stand still until Bear calms himself down, give him ample space to escape, then slowly back-track away while facen Him. Avoid direct eye
contact, fer Bear may take that as a direct threat. If U can't detour tha hall out, may be better to wait until Black Bear moves-on.
Speak softly so to reassure Him that no harm is meant to him. Let Him no, that yer just
passen-thru to yer destination's end.
At a glance, after see-en U, that Bear will give
U tha "right-of-passage". Fer He no's, U too,
be a seasoned "Symbol of Water Woods",
a "Forest Friend", who leaves no tracks to trace. He will watch over U, fer He be yer
"Guardian of Safe Passage" &

Just got back Sat. from 9 days in. Just 3 of us, I soloed they tandam. Never even seen any signs, no scat, no prints, no claw marks on trees. The closest thing I saw to a bear was Alex M's dog. His Ojibway name translated to english is Bear. I will try to spell it the was it is pronounced but it will probably not be spelled right, Ma hin gan.

So, like, there was this cat…you know…
Yeah, s/he was, hmmm, kind of weird,
but as it turns out
weird inn a *kind* kind of way.
So anyway, s/he, with padded wings, could sift softly like rye flour
through my dreams,
glinting magic words in their wake (my sleep)
and his
body would shift into…
noooo, not *into*, but just, well …
Bear Became.
Bear.
In a canoe.
And so came the wake from the night and I just knew
as he floated away
as the sun rose
that what I knew was true
because of you.
My sweet dream into day.
