I have been told huron canoes are not worth much because they are not well built and there is spruce lumber in them. I have one hanging in my garage for 25 yrs. and I was told they are worth about $200.00. The wood is excellent but I think the canvas needs sanding and paint. Is there anything to put on before painting and is that about what they are worth. thank you GBF.

gfoley,

Huron's are great canoes. They are not as finely crafted as other canoes but they can still paddle beautifully. Sand the paint lightly (don't go down until you see the weave of the canvas) and repaint. You'll probably need 3 coats while lightly sanding in between. There is lots of information on the Wooden Heritage Canoe Association site forums and I'd recommend checking there for advice: http://forums.wcha.org/index.php?

or you can sell it to me for $200!
