"To Hunt in Packs"
Wolves- don't require total wilderness.
Tho they do require a healthy prey-base,
suitable water woods, so to roam wild & free.
Wolves R adaptable. Wolves R also opportunistic
& do down-kill healthy prey if they R able
bodied to chase-down & catch them.
Mostly, it be tha weak, sick, crippled,
parasite infested, young/or old that be victims.
1's that R helpess/or unable to resist tha attack, R 1's taken by "Pack Predators" as food.
By cullen/or selecten inferior unfit prey, whom shows signs of being vulneable, "Tha Wolf"
plays a much vital fole in the process of
natural selection.
Wolves feed primarily on hoofed-ungulates,
like deer/or moose & sum times chew to swallow
in turn "Grey Owls Beavers" duren months time
of open lake/river pond waters.
"Tha Pack"!
Large in #'s, grouped organized method action,
concentrated to mass together as 1, so as to
gain a desired result, by-way-of ferocity,
"to eat greedily, then DEVOUR"

North American River Otters, dense soft furred
water land mammals R well insulated fer Up-Norths
cold winds, water & snow. Powerfully graceful at
be-en agile at runnen, swimmen, floaten & up to 8 minutes of dive time in dark river type moven waters.
They survive in pristine wilderness of an aboundant food source & a must easy in-put off river banks. Eat at night but in romote areas been seen out-bout mid-day. Hav strong clawed web short legged feet, with long thick rudder tail & submarine type bod. To keep energy at playfully hi
levels, these solitary sub-mariners must feed on much fish, cray fish, crabs, birds, eggs, water plants & sum tasteful wild river Turtles.
When threatened, the ferocious state can fend-off
wild cats, dogs of sorts & hunters of tha sky.
Tunnellers den-up on river banks may live ther, up till 10, in tha wild.
Otters depend on the sight, touch, smell, hearen
& long thick whiskered mouth hairs to find food
in murky moven river waters.
Ottertooths, talk they do, in forms of
chuckles, sum-times growls, may scream a bit to be heard & can also whistle-atest out loud.
Otters of tha far rough north, hav noses be of
"diamond shaped" with 2 ringed nostrils at lower
half which can be shut closed when diven under
dark rivers runnen wild.
Smart & skilled water animals with warm soft dense fur, is why Native Indians hunters & European trappers of past sought ther wher-bouts.
Otters do communicate in different ways,

Never saw a river otter in the wild.
Saw sea otter voyaging through the inside passage of Alaska and Canada last May.
And once a white mink? [ small animal ] in the Rangeley Lakes [ along the shore running in and out of drift wood and the rocks ] of Maine in '62.
I can still remember the Disney film about Otters I saw as a kid.
Thanks canoebear for the info about ' diamonds in the rough '...again another ' nugget ' from you!

Respect tha right of ways, of [natures wildlife]
animals when canoen/or portage packen
on marked trails & thence paddlen along
waters route passages.
"Take note" of animal tracked-up signs.
It be tha imprint Bears, beavers & such leaves
behind in woodlands & on lake/river waters that
showes a direct path to ther respected den-up areas/or nesten sites.
Wild waters & woods R homes or wildlife.
Do not disturb/or disrupt such things as standen
tall dead trees, layen round, down on tha ground,
rocks & dead fall logs of sorts that wood provide valuable cover/or breeden sites fer reptiles,
amphibians, winged birds & moose, wolves & other
Up-North cridders alike.
It be ok to look, but don't touch.
Leave it be & keep it natural wild, Haya!

Very exceptional chose of word and advice. Hope everyone in the backcountry heeds those words. Plus, do not take with you something in you do not intend to take out.

Good advice canoebear! I have been using a Cayenne Pepper ointment for years.
It [ dry form ] helps with digestion too and keeps bugs away from my garden.
There must be some other good uses for it in the wilds.

may apply to whatever is worthy of contempt.
Brush Wolf be, fer sur, an annoy, bother, nuisance & a wild animal harmful to humans, Okey!
Early settlers tagged & packaged bag 'tis here
critter fer ther short 8 year life in tha wild.
These here settlers, who made ther home in tha back country, had a shallow mind-set, lack of understanden bout tha Wild Coyote & now here new-cummers thrived on/or with much fear-factored in.
A Coyote in tha wild will bite yer hand off,
only if yer "dumb enuff" to stick yer hand in Coyotes den/or attempt to hand feed them.
Years back, I had canoe Coy-Dog named "Coyote".
A gentle, well-mannered Dog of hi intelligence
that had much spring in His step.
I sur miss my "God's-Dog" much.
'Tis Praire Wolf be an adaptable wild creature with many interesten habits needs much food &
covered shelter to survive.
So called tha "Trickster", uses His hi intellect to hunt alone a kill fer food, animals of prey, which R birds, turkeys, rodents, rabbits & I've witnessed take-down of 1 deer fawn & Tom turkey too.
'Tis "Barken Dog" , a night time caller, Who
barks 2 short hi-pitched 1's & sum-time yodels.
I'm not to bad at call-out, to spot-stalk
Coyote out & bout. Many times that I've seen tha "Praire Wolf Trickster" wood of been only in drizzlen rain down on dusk/or dawn. Always in plain view of see-en Him licken His chops
over a opportune meal. Once seen tha likes of me,
'tis bushy tail Dog was quick to run away,
but thats okey. His straight-lined lope get-away
wood be of straight tracks left in tha mud behind.
Tha only eradicaten varmints that wood/or shood be removed & up-rooted is harmful gun-totten 1's
worthy of much deserved contempt.
If ya don't plan on eaten all yer kill,
than hall, why shoot it, Heya?

We rented a 4 wheel drive at some expense and drove into the Pryor Mountains of Montana to find the wild horses.
We found them.
It was worth the time and money we spent.

"Food Fight"
Be-en in tha "right place at right time"!
Wife & I saw an old white wolf get in a scrap
with a young 200 lb. Black Bear over left overs.
Black Bear plopped-down & held his ground while
male lone wolf circled taunt & nip Bears butt.
After food was downed, Bear chased wolf out of veiw. Hav a feelen 'tis has been played-out
on regular bases by 2.

"Buffalo Wolves", 'twas thought to be wiped out, died out or convinced to be gone.
But, tha wolves round tha Great Lakes States of
Minnesota, Wisconsin & Michigans U.P. Northwoods
R thought to be desendants of them.

out-side Yellowstone be a must.
To-take-off Great Bear from list,
wood put Grizz in danger/or harms-way.
To-take-off list wood expose Great Bear
to more risk.
To remove wood take-out Grizz fer sur.
