"Otter-Tail Country" A water woods land of exceptional advantage. Be a thick forest of old growth pine + birch huggen tha waters edge, wher deep clear lakes & wild rivers flow into 1-another. These here pure waters be aboundant with walleye, as well as, savage northern pike that swim among hard-worken "Grey Owl Beavers". ,Tis be tha NE woods wher shades of beautiful blue is mixed into tha sky waters wher hawks circle bout & eagles soar high above. Be an area wher tha night setten show its full moon face/or on a clear night sky of 'tis here NE region, may indeed point-out its visible glowen streamers of tha "northern lights dawn". Undiscovered Otter-Tail Country be fer sur, Canoe Country wher tha scent of evergreen pine barge into tha wind of fresh air. Paddlen thru these forest-rimmed lakes rivers, be moven-off into tha quiet deep of it all, in awe. A spot wher canoes + packs stuffed with gear be carried across paw path natural trails from lake-to-lake reachen tha outer realm of well-off undistered hush. Seated by tha camp fire & listen to tha loons call, owls hoot & tha wolves howl, be music to 1's ear, but with Black Bears & moose passen thru tha bush at night, may not be such a quiet get-away after all? But best of all be tha colors of autumn fall, wher tha asorted rainbow color display of bronze, crimsom, gold, maroon, orange & fire hydrant red of tall leaf trees of birch aspen & maple shows-off in tha mist of mature greenery of big-time pines be gorgeous. 'Tis a spot like , a Painted Turtle wood clearly blend-in, Heya!

"In-Season" Listen! Tha winds from tha NE be starten to go-up. Tha fresh air be much wild with washed done-in leaves moven round & bout. We be well into October's "True Injun Summer" now. A hue leaf fallen 'tis nothen more than a summer's wave fare-well, before O'Man Wintry packs-in fer raw winteren grounds to rough-it. Tha painted leaves fall & tumble in autumn, before long, coveren-up path of past, Heya! |

"Fall Leaves Fall" Leaves fall in Autumn. Leaves change colors & fall to tha ground. They hav become-less & die. With seasons permission, 1-by-1, drop-off to decend to a resten state, far down below, on "Mother Earth's Ground". Stop to look, while leaf-by-leaf, fall-back & then tumble freely away! Downward all leaves must go! Fallen-down in much decline, then to settle amongst others, of its own, departed kind. Set-out to pilen-up, just so to fall-apart, to replenish dirt fer a renewal spring start. "Fall of tha Leaf" be harvested, in tha Fall Autumn of our lives, Heya!

"Dead of Night in Dead of Winter" 'Tis hallowed ground "Carrien Place" of extreme NE, be smothered with just-out seasons blanket of unbroken snow-white. Here on tha fringe frontier boundry of great old trail route, moose yard-up so to be screened from off-shores vast stretch waters whirl-winds of 'tis here, ever-so-raw-cold-glow of, "February's Twilight Passage". Old Man Wintrier raised his hand to winter-kill by-way of His deadly weapon of ice cold snow. Feel afar, night coldness of tha bone structures in tha NE landscape, be tha loneliness, of all. Be-en tha dead feelen of winter, fer sur. Some-thin, lie in wait, beneath tha winter-tide of its piercen numben snow, that 'tis inactive cursed out-look, woodn't show. Wood-be a perfection of transparent absence. "Dead of Winter" duren tha hours of darkness, of "Voyager Portage Path" be clearly crystallined & untouched at both ends now. May-be, perfect dead-locked impasse wintertime weather in darkness be to give-up, as a means, to an end & then let-go wildly astray. To break-trail on snowshoes in tha gloom of a wintry night, might very well be tha pure character of tha meanen of a take-out enden/or a new beginnen put-in, to explore. Mid-February down-right, out & out be tha wait to see month fer that, Heya!

Canoebear, what is your profession in life?...are you a teacher? I really enjoy reading your scripts, and I think they are so very well written. I was just wondering if you are just a writer by chance or if you have professional writing in your back ground. I hope I am not being to forward in asking. Please keep writing...I look forward to reading more.} |

"Indian Paint Brush Savage Lands" So cleared-out & dismaled scorched Bearen "NE Land O' Lakes" picture depiction Be. Such wreckage done way-back in tha bush, by-way of chain-saws, dozers & big fire-arm guns. Otterheads, along with tha Bears, Beavers, eagles, moose, northern pike, wolves, "Old Growth Pines" & free roaman air passen over canoe waters play a great chief role in "Mothers Earths" future, never to be, too far-off/or over-looked. We all be tha Wild, tha Wild be at deaths door. So called scouts may show cardinal direction, but U must be tha 1 to compass on-in, to change. I'm just dust in tha wind, not to be factored-in. Painten tha wild, 1 must be tha change, 1 wishes to see in tha wilderness. Wife & I wander chase after tha lamped moon on snowshoes/or in a canoe, fer even if we come-up bit short, we still make land-fall on north star. I'm a freak fer nature too, cause tha Rainbow Turtle told me so, obliged!

"White-Out" A blizzard blast of dry, cold winter storm with NE high winds & a squall of much snowy-white. How vulnerable Northeasterns R to "Mother's Natures" wrath of awesum power! "Woodn't Wave White Flag/or Show-off White Feather, just Yet"! Fer "Tha White-Beard Men", sound in body & serene of mind ther is no such thin as bad weather! Fer every sky has its beauty, & wintry williwaw which whip tha blood-up, but, do make it pulse much vigorously. May-be time fer 2 Pale Faces to face paint! Indians painted bodies with much out-lined sketch drawens to shield from harm duren battle. Natives also colored coated & decorated faces fer tha beauty of it. Ferthermore, Native Americans used paints to protect ther skin from changen elements of sum sun, snow & wind. Perhaps a good screen make-up of "rubben Buffalo Fat" onto white-faces spreaden colorful powderd tints/or shades of tha rainbow paint over it & then rubben it-in. Injun Scouts before breaken trail on-top of deep soft un-broken snow wood paint ther faces with much pure white, to symbolize tha Timber Wolf, Whose power 'twas thought to sustain superior support when scouten/or pathfinfen. It might be better to leave well enough alone. "Let White-beards keep + be ther own White-Faces"! Heya, Mike & Paul!

No " rubben Buffalo Fat " today when I ventured into the " White Out ". But I did rub in Vitamin E Oil [ 45,000 I. U. ] and oils of Black Currant, Evening Primrose, Macadamia Nut, and Borage. And no face paint... but my hydrant wrench is freshly painted fire engine red ... all ready to open up a few hydrants in the morning. Think I will break trail to Hardings Beach first thing and grease a hydrant down near the parking lot. " White Sox " my fox buddy should be out and about then and there. Heya! The Turtle |

"Tha UnBearable Likeness of Be-en, KILLDEER" A North American "right-away" bird always come-out runnen like new fawns. Its worth keepen a watchen eye-out fer be-en fooled by 'tis broken wing display. When confronted up-close trickster, broken wing heal-up bird, who now flies away cry-en out-loud, KILL-DEE! Tha most famous rifle to come-out runnen in our frontier lore.... from James Fenimore Cooper 'twas Hawkeyes KILLDEER, a Pennsylvannia Long Rifle. An American long rifle in response to requests from frontiersmen + wildlife kill hunters. Rifle of sort seen in movies of Boon & Crockett. as well as, Last of tha Mohicans. But lets not be fooled! As fer wildlife goes across Superior road-ways barriers between forest & big water, motorists wood-be-wise to be especally cautious when steeren clear of wildlife duren dusk till dawn. KILLDEER road-kills be out-of-season auto strike vehicle collision mortality. Exercise caution fer mobility comes with a hi-price. "IT STOPS WILDLIFE DEAD IN THER TRACKS"! Bottom line be-en, that wildlife habitat has resulted in millions of animals killed on our pathways every day. Road-kill be no.1 way humans kill wildlife in Tha North Americas. Aviod wildlife road-kills by, 1) signs posted 2)limit driven dark hours 3)don't litter 4)report all kills Maybe reduce tha impact of roads in wildlife habitat, in addition awareness to future road development that should avoid wildlife areas of sensitive places in tha NE, without putten nature at hazzardess risk/or putten nature 2nd. On return snoeshoe trip from extreme NE had a car deer accident. I KILLDEER! Never saw it comen-out, But should hav known. Even tho blind-sided Tracker 4x4, I didn't HEED warnen signs. I hav much blood on my hands too. KILLDEER put to death, put an end to hopes & dreams too. I'm ashamed + moved by missdeeds, its as bad as poachen by way-of-long-gun, Heya! |

"Great Smoky Mountains Territory" Rugged mountains wer sacred to tha Cheokee before They did a force march to Oklahoma. Largest stands of Old Growth Forest in tha United States. Spirit Place be symbol of wildernes, fer sur. Rugged mountain backcountry be densely wooded with mixed pines & hardwoods. Great place to go canoen, kayaken & backpacken. Such a Superior montainous back-drop of beautifully inspiren "Indian Paint Brush Lands", wher "Last of Mohicans" be filmed. Untamed wildlife that dwell in 'tis rough terrain be Skunks of sorts, our River Otter, fishers, 1 Painted Turtle, raccoons, opossums, elk, bison, minks, long tail weasels, Tha Grey Wolf, European Bore, coyote, red wolf, bob cats, chipmunks, neat southern flyen squirrel, red + grey foxes, yes, Eastern Cougars, lovely poisonous copper snakes, timber rattlen venom snakes, spiders & such. By tha way, as of 1960, no Grey Owl Beavers exist in wetlands below. Almost forgot, ther be bout 1600 free roamen Black Bear [now confined] to woodlands with much dense, Canadian type brush. "Indian Brush Paintens" of savage lands depicts tha beautiful picturesque view of magnificent uneven scenery that wood blind-eye tha unskilled tender trespasser when confronted with so much wild. Tha wild thing that be hidden, be tha natural signs & tracks pass-overed, unknowenly.. Tha primitive, tha cruel, tha uncontrolled tha brutal wood be tha down-side of tha beast of tha allurement of beauty. Savagery showed its wildside on Thursday 04/14/06 on tha Chilhowee Mountain in Tennessee Cherokee National Forest wher a Bear attack occured. Sadden by it all! Everybody loses! Not such a pretty picture of tha "Beast at-large with-in tha Beauty", Heya ghost_brigade! |

"Wind River" 'Tis beautiful stretch of splash paddle river run we do, rushes into tha head winds of a chain of flat moven water-ways. 'Tis shallow lakes river paddlen winds can create challegen conditions of much choppy water wakes that make it difficult to canoe, if not dangerous. But that be our lay of our Land o' Lakes. Border states current flow presents a # of varied paddle experiences + demands to well season us fer our canoe portage voyage to tha Wilds of tha NE, "Wher Black Bears Be". We're on tha wind river current now, putten-in at 1 site & take-out return to very same bank. Headen N then come back S, up & down we go, wher tha be ceaseless & water never tha unchangen. 'Tis here water move make fitten & ready fer putten-in order wher big wind wave open water-meets that lies ahead. Be a bit rough now, but don't want any un-fer-seen mis-adventures farther-U.P. come Indian Summer. Tha river's reeds giv-way to tha wind & tha wind away, Heya! |

"Seasons Allrement" Watery paint brush of NE Wilds be a picture setten fer look-seer's to stop-over & rest. Wher "true beauty scenery" of unrestricted trappens be much out-lined. Be seen in a Canadian solo canoe tripper's drawn quest move & carry into spring bloom. Be seen in wildlife & Paint turtles on tha move in tha calm heat & haze of Indian Summer. Be seen in a backpacker's hike up-to unfamiliar superior heights to get panarama maple leaf color show of Autumn Fall's dazzlen change to brilliance. Be seen in tracks left by a goen-off snowshoer who, broke a fresh trail on uneven snow crust thru a far difficult pass. But no spring/or summer, nor winter has as much all-time gorgeous power of attraction of wilderness goen-ons than has been seen in 1 Autumnal face season under tha Full of Moon/or flame torch-Bearer of tha Northern Lights, Heya!

"over tha hills & far away" 2 gradually canoe/or shoe within tha great outdoors. 2 edge our way thru tha wild side of untamed nature, by a favorable position encompassed. Be much more than a campaign quest. Be a bold risky undertaken journey full of exciten adventures, to put to good use + reguarded ther after. To break trail wher few has lay track before, be unbeknownst to us & who cares any-way. A longen fer, tha thing that be increasenly elusive, an out of tha way NE Wilds, that be beyond reach/or touch. A happenen with-out 1's knowledge/nor control. Undiscovered core of wilderness reveals a wild place full of wild things that experiences occurrences by unexpected chances that beFalls all. Be just our blessen from "Lady of tha Lake" to give us benefit of Superiority look-over at unheard-of, unfrequented distant region far removed & unexplored from recreational travel. Come face to face with pack wolves, moose & Black Bears on game trail, be just us, them & tha break-in twilight still. Vast expanse of uneveness rough surface tract be natures wilds unleashed that allurement beckons tha daren. All chances, all cardinal directions, we can't see-to by putten-in/or packen-out, which wood be impenetrable any how. Creepen steadily along we go, little at a time, in a keenness of mindful respect of tha power of natures course of harmony, no-en full well that unpredictable things will go down & become known. Stayen watchfull & keepen an ear to tha wind may give us an edge advantage with open-air risk. So far, so good, but U never no, Heya!

Wilderness is… Words get in the way. Wildness is … reciprocal relationships and that which happens in the in-between spaces it’s not about me “becoming one” with the universe, but me and “the other” coming to together, “becoming more” than what we are individually becoming more The "we" that happens, with music, mountains, running, silent lakes, poetry, free-falling, sexual ecstasy, meditation … I am drawn into this relationship. It is reciprocal after all. Wildness happens in any direction. Noisy noisy words! Shhhhhh… heya} |

Or... Wilderness is... Wildness... Unbridled, and unfrocked... Reciprocations... You do this, while I do that... Lefthand, Righthand. Leftbrain, Rightbrain. Leftheart, Rightheart. Equal measure emitting and absorbing... Balance... Words falling away... with an Autumn Birch's no-further-need-for... The coming together... the melting... the melding... the returning-to-oneness... the every pebble changing the course of any river... the union of Being and Beast of Rock and Water of Pinetop and Heaven of Silence and Emotion a parting glance over ones' weary shoulder. no need for words, for a word once spoken might never be made unsaid. I SO treasure such silences. Sundown |
