Brian,
How secure are we here on this site?
I am not sure if you know, but CCR site has been hacked in it's entirety and you see nothing but the hackers message. I am no expert and don't no the consequences or the implications this causes.
Hope we can stay the course!!

It appears to be a kidnap and ransom attack.

To know how secure is a truly unanswerable question about any site. How CCR was hijacked I don't know, so I can't tell you if we are vulnerable here to the same tactic.

But let me point out that CCR is a php site. That's to the chat room world as the Internet Explorer is to the browser world. And we know how vulnerable IE is. This site uses a less common base, which helps. Knock wood.

Whether a forum uses PHP, HTML or CGI will not exclude it from being hacked. But keeping up with the latests updates will defiantly help prevent it from happening.

The CCR forum is using a very old release of the phpBB software which has been updated quite few times over the years.

And until they upgrade the site to the latest release, it will remain open to attack.

Anyone that runs a forum should be aware of updates to their forum software and stay on top of it. It's always a cat and mouse game between the forum admins and the hackers.

Such is life on the internet.

Dave, excellent points. That minor change last month in the address for this forum was the result of an update here.

It's good to know you're on top of things Brian.

Although I don't post a lot, I visit on a regular basis. It's a great site for info and resources that I use quite a bit in planning trips.

Thanks for your hard work. It's appreciated.

Dave
